22. Holy Wells - Hidden Shrines In The Landscape
Introduction to holy wells mostly in the UK, with photographs and descriptions.
http://www.theweepingcross.com/wells_home.html
What are Holy Wells?
I've been fascinated by holy wells for many years. This sort-of arose out of my interest in churches and saints. In my teens the idea of the
'Celtic Church' caught my imagination (something to do with that romantic image of the Celtic fringe of Britain, all rain and unimagined
antiquity), and gradually getting to know more about the Celtic saints I became aware that there were wells and springs named after them.
Preservation Group recently established by Mark Valentine (oddly enough Mark was later part of Jennie Gray's Gothic Society too - odd how
these things work out!). Anyway, that was that. Soon it became clear that the landscape was full of these strange and charismatic things called
'holy wells'. I ended up researching them wherever I happened to be - first in my native Dorset, then Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Kent, Bucks,
and now Surrey. I even wrote a book about them. Keeps me off the streets (but not out of the mud).
It's worth saying that 'holy wells' aren't always, or even usually, 'wells' in the modern sense of a dug-out structure designed to reach an
underground source of water whether a spring or just water accumulated by seepage from the earth. The Anglo-Saxon word

SUMMARY Presented as a miraculous cure-all, Tono-Bungay is in fact nothing other than a pleasant-tasting liquid with no positive effects. Nonetheless, when the young George Ponderevo is employed by his uncle Edward to help market this ineffective medicine, he finds his life overwhelmed by its sudden success. Soon the worthless substance is turned into a formidable fortune as society becomes convinced of the merits of Tono-Bungay through a combination of skilled advertising and public credulity.

25. Aaron Wells' Homepage!!!
Contains personal information and links.
http://www.iowaline.net/aaron.html
Hi, I'm Aaron G. Wells. If you're here, you probably already know who I am, so I'm not too afraid of drawing stalkers from posting personal information here since if you already know who I am, then you're probably already stalking me. Besides, this page prominently posts my picture, which ought to be enough to dissuade any stalkers. Incidentally, the women's spelling for my name is "Erin". As you can see from the US Census Bureau's 1990 data regarding the most frequent first names in the US, "Aaron" is the 77th most common men's name in the US, while "Arron" ranks 790th, "Erin" ranks 802nd, and "Aron" ranks 864th. All the variations on my name are at more than 10 times less common than plain old A-A-R-O-N, and yet I see them almost as often as I see people just spelling my name correctly. Admittedly, I pronounce my name in way that people from the East Coast would pronounce the name "Erin", but it's a subtle difference and one that people on the West Coast don't observe with this name or with any other word. (For the uninitiated, "Aaron" is pronounced with a leading short-a sound [as in "can"], while "Erin" is pronounced with a leading short-e sound [as in "air"]) But that's enough of that particular rant. As a person with a very frequently mis-spelled name (I have only ever met or heard of

Nickname: The Wells Headstone Main stand Far goal Dugouts Terracing at Culverden Down End One of the key requisites for enjoying a ground is that it must have ‘character’. Culverden Stadium certainly has this, beginning with the commemorative ‘headstone’ that stands propped up just inside the main entrance and noting the official opening of the ground on 18 August 1962. Floodlights were added in 1992.
The original club however, was formed in 1886 and during its many incarnations has played at no less than eight different venues around the town. It existed until the outbreak of WW2 when it closed down, and its ground at Down Farm was requisitioned. On reforming in 1947, the club moved back to Down Farm but not on the original site.
In 1951 they moved again, this time to the Agricultural Show Ground at the other end of town, close to the Nevill Ground. This had a barn-type stand down one side, with rudimentary shelters opposite, and was home until 1962, when The Wells joined the Southern League and moved to Culverden Stadium. In 1967 however, the club folded and was it only through the determination of a hard core of supporters (sound familiar?) that it quickly was resurrected and began all over again in the Kent League the following season.

This article is from the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica. Medical science has made many leaps forward since it has been written. This is not a site for medical advice, when you need information on a medical condition, consult a professional instead. HERBERT GEORGE WELLS (1866-), English novelist was born at Bromley Kent , on the 21st of September 1866, the son of Joseph Wells, a professional cricketer. He was educated at Midhurst grammar school and at the Royal College of Science, where he was trained in physics, chemistry astronomy geology and biology . He graduated B.Sc. of London University in 1888 with first-class honours, taught science in a private school, and subsequently did private coaching. In 1893 he began to write for the Pall Mall Gazette of which he was dramatic critic in 1895. He also wrote for Nature and the Saturday Review. After the success of his fantastic story The Time Machine (1895) he gave his time chiefly to the writing of romances, in which the newest scientific and technical discoveries were used to advance his views on politics and sociology . But he did not confine himself to fiction. His Anticipations (1902) showed his real gift for sociological speculation . Beginning with a chapter on the means of locomotion in the 10th century, it went on to discuss war, the conflict of languages, faith, morals, the elimination of the unfit, and other general topics, with remarkable acuteness and constructive ability.
