, Türkçe. It all started with the collection of the books in the Dutch language (publisher: Het Spectrum - Prisma). Because I had in my posession a couple of Penguin-books, I also started to collect pictures of these. And then: after a few weeks of seeking over the WWW for pictures of Wodehouse covers, I realised that there are a lot of sites about P.G. Wodehouse, but none of them shows much bookcovers (except: The Russian Wodehouse Society).

P. G. Wodehouse
There is no doubt that virtually everyone has either read, heard or seen some of Wodehouse work, and the success of the various series over the years prove that his writings are classics. Although criticised by some of writing material that is out of touch, his answer was to treat his stories as a sort of period piece and ignore that it was only fairly recent. He also beleived that there were two ways of writing novels. His was of making it a sort of musical comedy without the music and ignoring real life, the other was to go deep down into life and not give damn. Born in 1881 in Guildford, Surrey, Pelham Grenville Wodehouse was the son of a Civil Servant and was educated at Dulwich College (a place he retained affection for until his death in 1975, and has a number of his effects). He started his working life in the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank before giving up the heady heights of finance for writing. And what a writer! He produced around a hundred books (a nightmare for any collector, but a Godsend for any avid reader!), created the characters of Bertie Wooster and his ever-resourceful manservant Jeeves, the environs and inhabitants of Blandings Castle, including the prize porker, The Empress of Blandings, and was also involved in some dozen or so straight plays, and about 250 lyrics for musical comedies. He married in 1914 and became an American citizen in 1955. Twenty years later he was made a Knight of the British Empire in the New Years Honours list, and in an interview said his ambitions had now been achieved. He died on St Valentines day in the same year.

P. G. Wodehouse
I made this page to tell you about my connection to the master of humor who has accompanied my life since I was ten. Ezen az oldalon elmesélem kapcsolatomat a humor nagymesterével, aki tízéves korom óta kíséri az életemet. It all began in the summer of 1957, when I borrowed a book from a young girl who lived a block away. I still have those two small volumes; I never gave them back to her. It seemed imperative that I keep that novel for the future which is now my past and present. The book was the second Hungarian edition of Leave it to Psmith A történet 1957 nyarán kezdődött, amikor kölcsönkértem egy könyvet egy közelben lakó lánytól. The first edition was published before World War 2, translated by Guthi Erzsébet, a remarkable woman. (Her son, Devecseri Gábor became a poet and a translator of ancient Greek and Latin literature, and, "coincidentally", her grandson was my schoolmate in elementary school.) Later I managed to obtain a copy of the first edition of her translation.

THE WORLD OF WODEHOUSE “What can one say about Wodehouse? He exhausts superlatives. I am not alone in believing he has come closer than any writer of English to approaching Shakespeare's complete mastery and transcendency of language.” (Stephen Fry) PG Wodehouse has long had readers and writers reaching for superlatives. Why? For one thing, the language has the rhythm and impact of poetry – for at least four of the seven decades Wodehouse wrote it is as if Homer had turned to farce. For another, he was, as Evelyn Waugh said, a master of his craft. Above all, it is simply very funny. PG Wodehouse’s world of Jeeves, Wooster, Lord Emsworth, Psmith, Ukridge, Uncle Fred, Madeline Bassett, Mr. Mulliner, hapless golfers, stout butlers, stouter pigs, stately homes, the Drones Club, and transatlantic liners continues to be read and re-read. Little wonder, then, fresh editions of his books, productions of his musicals and new biographies continue to appear.

Mystery of the Castle of P.G. Wodehouse Solved?
Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse is perhaps most famous for his valet Jeeves, and his stories set at Blandings Castle. We're forever looking for the places about which famous literary works are written, and now fans believe they have discovered the true location of the famous Wodehouse castle.
    P. G. Wodehouse Appreciation Page
Tom Kreitzberg writes, "Throughout his stories, Wodehouse presents a view of the world which differs from his fans would say, improves upon the focus most people have. For a variety of reasons, pigs, newts, and statues of the Infant Samuel at Prayer play significant roles in the Wodehousian view, while such things as death, taxes, and work are crowded towards the O. P. wings." zSB(3,3)

    Wodehouse saved my life
With today's reissue of P. G. Wodehouse's books, Hugh Laurie tells how the comic genius made him clean up his 'squalid' existence To be able to write about P. G. Wodehouse is the sort of honour that comes rarely in any man's life, let alone mine. This is rarity of a rare order. Halley's comet seems like a blasted nuisance in comparison. If you'd knocked on my head 20 years ago and told me that a time would come when I, Hugh Laurie - scraper-through of O-levels, mover of lips (own) while reading, loafer, scrounger, pettifogger and general berk of this parish - would be able to carve my initials in the broad bark of the Master's oak, I'm pretty certain that I would have said "garn", or something like it. I was, in truth, a horrible child. Not much given to things of a bookery nature, I spent a large part of my youth smoking Number Six and cheating in French vocabulary tests. I wore platform boots with a brass skull and crossbones over the ankle, my hair was disgraceful, and I somehow contrived to pull off the gruesome trick of being both fat and thin at the same time. If you had passed me in the street during those pimply years, I am confident that you would, at the very least, have quickened your pace. You think I exaggerate? I do not. Glancing over my school reports from the year 1972, I observe that the words "ghastly" and "desperate" feature strongly, while "no", "not", "never" and "again" also crop up more often than one would expect in a random sample. My history teacher's report actually took the form of a postcard from Vancouver.
