Seminars in Forensic Toxicology - Opioids
In association with the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT)

The goal of this seminar is to provide an intensive course on the forensic aspects of opioids. Leaders in the field will cover the pathology, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicokinetics, clinical effects, and laboratory analysis and interpretation of both licit and illicit opioids. Current uses of opioids in pain management will be discussed. Opioid tolerance, totality of death investigation, and post- mortem redistribution will be highlighted. Small group, interactive presentations will be used to enhance the curriculum.

The primary concern for forensic toxicology is not the legal outcome of the toxicological investigation or the technology utilised, but rather the obtaining and interpreting of the results. A toxicological analysis can be done to various kinds of samples. A forensic toxicologist must consider the context of an investigation, in particular any physical symptoms recorded, and any evidence collected at a crime scene that may narrow the search, such as pill bottles, powders, trace residue, and any available chemicals. Provided with this information and samples with which to work, the forensic toxicologist must determine which toxic substances are present, in what concentrations, and the probable effect of those chemicals on the person.

Toxicology Testing Areas: Toxicology testing in this burdened environment is mandatory. No naturopathic physician, homeopathic doctor, alternative medical physician or natural holistic healer can ignore the fact that our environment has been exploited in a way that is detrimental to our health. Toxicology testing provides us with answers about the depraved state of nature at present, it provides us with answers how to identify the chemicals, and toxins in general, and establishes the identity of the substance which alleviates the toxic condition. A practice without toxicology testing is incomplete, and will not be successful without the clinical elimination of environmental toxins. Neurotoxins, immunotoxins
