From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (21 June 1732 – 26 January 1795), the ninth son of Johann Sebastian Bach , sometimes referred to as the "Bückeburg Bach". He is not to be confused with other similarly-named members of the Bach family (see Johann Christoph Bach (disambiguation) Born in Leipzig in the Electorate of Saxony , he was taught music by his father, and also tutored by his distant cousin Johann Elias Bach . He studied at the St. Thomas School , and some believe he studied law at the university there, but there is no record of that. In 1750, Count Wilhelm von Schaumburg-Lippe appointed Johann Christoph harpsichordist at Bückeburg , and in 1759, he became Konzertmeister. While there, Bach collaborated with Johann Gottfried Herder , who provided the texts for six vocal works; the music survives for only four of these. Bach wrote keyboard sonatas symphonies oratorios , liturgical choir pieces and motets operas and songs. Because of Count Wilhelm's predilection for Italian music, Bach had to adapt his style accordingly, but he retained stylistic traits of the music of his father and of his brother

Johann Sebastian Bach’s spirited F-minor concerto is wonderfully compact, of a manageable length for the student player, and displays all the wonderful qualities associated with the granddaddy of the keyboard. The companion on this disc is a concerto long attributed to Johann Christian Bach, but now proven to belong to be by one of Bach's lesser-known sons, Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach. He was a skillful composer, as this marvelous gem will testify. It is perfect for the beginning student and is a wonderful preparation for the Mozart concerti.

Bach, Johann Christoph Friedrich
c . 1758. His career was steady and his output of compositions extensive. He made a successful transition from the late Baroque style into the pre-Classical style. His compositions were well received, and although they did not lead their times, they kept successfully abreast of them. He is at his best in his later symphonies, similar in style to those of Haydn. He also composed motets, oratorios (some in collaboration with the poet Johann Gottfried von Herder), piano sonatas, chamber cantatas, and instrumental chamber works.
