Arnold Bax
Arnold Edward Trevor Bax November 8 October 3 composer , was born in Streatham, London, to prosperous upper-middle-class parents. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Music where his composition teacher was Frederic Corder. He was a highly skilled pianist , though he very rarely played in public, and was famous for playing modern full scores from sight at the piano. In his youth he travelled in Russia and absorbed musical influences from the composers of that country, but later developed a deep love for Ireland , where he spent part of each year for a while, and contributed poems to Irish magazines under the pseudonym 'Dermot O'Byrne'. He also loved the remote west of Scotland and spent several winters composing at Morar, near Mallaig. His mature compositions begin around 1910 with his first piano sonata, and soon after he turned to the orchestra with a series of tone-poems such as 'The Garden of Fand and Tintagel. During the First World War he developed a passionate relationship with the pianist Harriet Cohen , and echoes of this can be detected in his music at the time (the climax of 'Tintagel' may be compared with that in Scriabin 's 'Poem of Ecstasy').

Sphemusator 10:15, 20 June 2006 (CDT)
Ligeti has recently died. First he doesn't matter any more to live of his creation. And moreover if somebody had asked him he surely wouldn't be against that his work of a life would spread freely all over the world, that anybody could read and study his labor . It is instead one of the nicest hommage we could give to him. I don't incite to break laws, I merely suggest that there must be a time when these laws could turn less absurd Almeo 16:57, 17 June 2007 (EDT)
Feldmahler 17:49, 17 June 2007 (EDT)
Ok, sorry, I did a big mistake using the auxiliary would , I wanted to mean the conditionnal and not the past sense... my native language has slightly different conventions... So, even that doesn't change my stem idea, I didn't mean Ligeti ever said explicitly that (but nevertheless I can hardly think that somebody would like that his work remains a commercial thing while he does not care any more [he is dead] to rely on it for surviving and keeping creating). And perhap's my use of italic has also led to interpret it as a quotation. I have made changes to fix it. I don't want to taint his memory by putting in his mouth words he never said.
