The Juilliard School presents The Other Mendelssohn: Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel , a 3-concert series at Juilliard performed by the School's C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellows on Thursday, September 30 and Friday, October 1 at 8 PM and Saturday, October 2 at 8:30 PM in Paul Hall, featuring the major works of composer Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, an extraordinary musician of the early-mid 19 th -century who was often overshadowed by her younger brother, Felix Mendelssohn. An exceptional pianist and gifted conductor as well as composer, Hensel wrote more than 450 works, most of which were not discovered until late in the 20 th -century. Although Fanny Hensel was known primarily as a composer of songs and short piano pieces, she also wrote chamber music (a string quartet and piano trio), choral music (part-songs and cantatas with orchestra) and a major piano cycle (
