Gioacchino Antonio Rossini
Born 29 February, 1792, at Pesaro in the Romagna; died 13 November, 1868, at Passy , near Paris . He was twice married : in 1822 to Isabella Colbrand; in 1847 to Olympe , who survived him, but he had no children. Rossini was not only the chief operatic composer of his time, but also a great innovator. Lesueur , in 1824, the greatest composer of the French school , said that "his ardent genius had opened a new road and marked a new epoch in musical art ". In the opera seria for long recitatives he substituted more singing; in the opera buffa he inaugurated a new comedy style. He introduced many new instruments into the Italian orchestras. To him belongs the preghiera good baritone voice, and was an excellent pianist. In 1804 he had lessons in singing and pianoforte playing at Bologna . Two years later he acted as musical director to a traveling company, but soon returned to Bologna to study composition at the Lyceum. His first successes were at Venice and Milan . In 1813 he wrote "Tancredi", the first of his operas which, with "L'Italiana in Algeri", became celebrated throughout

R ossini, Gioacchino Antonio Italian composer, the most successful operatic composer of his time. He was born in Pesaro. Rossini composed 37 operas, beginning with Demetrio e Polibio (1806) and ending with William Tell (1829). He was one of the great 19th-century exponents of the bel canto style, which emphasizes beauty of melodic line, rather than excessive drama and emotion. Rossini's most successful opera is The Barber of Seville, produced in Rome in 1816. His others include Cinderella (1817) and Semiramide (1823). Rossini's operas were the last and best in the Italian opera buffa (comic opera) style.

    Rossini, Gioacchino Antonio
Rossini, Gioacchino Antonio key , Italian operatic composer, one of the great masters of the Italian opera buffa. His parents were both musicians, and he began his career in childhood as a singer. He received his first formal musical education at the Liceo Comunale of Bologna, where one of his early cantatas was performed. Rossini's first comic opera, La Cambiale de Matrimonio, was produced in Venice in 1810, and it was followed by a series of lively works, culminating in his masterpiece, Il Barbiere di Siviglia The Barber of Seville, 1816). Based on the comedy by Beaumarchais, the opera resounds with Rossini's brilliant arias, ensemble numbers, and his famous crescendos. Among his many other operas are L'italiana in Algeri La Cenerentola (1817), and Semiramide William Tell Stabat Mater (1842), in which his operatic style is still evident.
