Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti Naples , 26 October 1685 – Madrid , 23 July 1757) was an Italian composer who spent much of his life in the service of the Portuguese and Spanish royal families. He is classified as a Baroque composer chronologically, although his music was influential in the development of the Classical style . Like his renowned father Alessandro Scarlatti he composed in a variety of musical forms although today he is known almost exclusively for his 555 keyboard sonatas.

C'est là, au service privé de la maison de Maria Barbara, qu'il devait terminer sa vie, ayant composé les quelque 555 sonates pour clavecin d'une originalité exceptionnelle et, pour la plupart, inédites de son vivant qui le posèrent comme un des compositeurs majeurs de l'époque baroque et de la musique pour clavier.

Catalogue (Adobe pdf file; 2.4 MB) Catalogue The catalogue contains listings, or at least a mention, of all the keyboard sonatas thought to have been composed by Domenico Scarlatti, as well as many attributed to him in eighteenth century sources. For a more complete list of doubtful ones, as well as fuller information on all the sources used, see the Collections file. Each entry has a map of themes and keys, with the measure numbers in which they first appear, followed by notes and citations. The catalogue is arranged in alphabetical and numberical order by primary source. The primary source, as I have defined it, is the one upon which the maps and notes are based; this means that in most cases I am describing the sonata as it appears in the Parma and Essercizi facsimiles in the Johnson reprint edition compiled by Kirkpatrick, with other sources labeled when they differ from the primary source. In most cases it is the same primary source identified in Sheveloff's worklist for New Grove 1980; this was expanded in Boyd's worklist for
