[ Camp Rock: This Is Me ]
Artist: Camp Rock
Song: This Is Me

I've always been the kind of girl
That hid my face
So afraid to tell the world
What I've got to say
But I have this dream
Right inside of me
I'm gonna let it show, it's time
To let you know
To let you know This is real, this is me I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, now Gonna let the light, shine on me Now I've found, who I am There's no way to hold it in No more hiding who I want to be This is me Do you know what it's like To feel so in the dark To dream about a life Where you're the shining star Even though it seems Like it's too far away I have to believe in myself It's the only way This is real, This is me I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, now Gonna let the light, shine on me Now I've found, who I am There's no way to hold it in No more hiding who I want to be This is me You're the voice I hear inside my head The reason that I'm singing I need to find you, I gotta find you You're the missing piece I need The song inside of me I need to find you, I gotta find you

Alexander Scriabin
Scriabin was born into a Moscow diplomat's family, his mother dying within a short time of his birth. His education included piano lessons which soon confirmed an unusual talent; during his boyhood and adolescence he continued his musical studies privately with the composer Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev. At the age of 14 he wrote his first piano sonata, although it waited until 1892 for publication. An Etude in C Sharp minor dates from 1887. His lessons with Taneyev helped him gain entry to the Moscow Conservatoire in 1888, where he studied under Vasilii Safonov for piano and Anton Arensky for composition. In his first year at the Conservatoire he completed his ten Mazurkas, Op. 3 (1889), combining the pianistic language of with his own essentially Russian darkness and fire.

28. Lia Tomás, Scriabin
Essay examining his mind, philosophy, and religiosity by Lia Tom s for the Fifth Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies.
The mythical time in Scriabin
Fifth Congress of the International Association for Semiotic Studies, Berkeley 1994

In his book Musical Poetics Gesamtkunstwerk was based upon a merger of philosophy, religion, and art, where a transubstantiation would be achieved through music, sound leading to ecstasy. Through this musical rite, he intended to recover the ancient history of magic powers (Bowers 1970,1:319). With a more careful reading of the composer's texts, it can be observed that they have an underlying thinking, an indicator that can lead to another key to the understanding of Scriabin's universe. This key is in another structure of thinking, which cannot be seen as false or deceiving, although its foundation lies on a setting other than the rational one: the mythical thinking. Looking at Scriabin's philosophical and musical thinking from the standpoint of Mircea Eliade's theory, some questions complementary to Stravinski's come to mind: how to translate his philosophical conception into sound and at the same time make it understandable for a heterogeneous public, not necessarily familiar with his conception of the world? Scriabin resorted to a mythological character when naming his fifth symphony. Was there any implication in that choice? When reviewing the musical score, no explicit reference to the myth is found other than the title. The character is in the score, but where? Thus, to enable real occurrence of Scriabin's reinterpretation of Prometheus, myth in the present time, for it to happen in its totality and be reactualized in the time span of the performance of the work, it is necessary for the interpreter (the musician performing the score) to go through his present time (the time when he is playing) and become inserted in the mythical time. With this view, the personal indications Scriabin made in the score (most of which suggest states of mind or evocative images) are the ones that enable the crossing and the rupture between the two times the interpreter is inserted into: the interpreter's own time (the chronological measurable time) and the time of the work the interpreter is playing (the mythical time).

31. Was Scriabin A Synaesthete?
Essay with charts examing the claim that he could literally see music and emotion as a series of colors on a continuum. By B.Galeyev, and I.Vanechkina.
Was Scriabin a Synaesthete?
I.Vanechkina This documentary material on Scriabin's "colored hearing" is being proposed for familiarization by the researchers on his ideas of light-music synthesis. On the basis of their analysis a conclusion is drawn up that the nature of "color-tonal" analogies is associative, i.e. psychological and, accordingly, the existing belief that Scriabin was a somewhat unique "synaesthete" who really saw the sounds of music, that is literally had an ability for "co-sensations", is being put in doubt. Our group - at the beginning it was merely an amateur group and now it is the academician institute "Prometheus" - is named so because, after the first in the USSR performance of Scriabin's "Prometheus" with light in 1962, we have been continuing to explore and develop Scriabin's ideas of art and synthesis up to nowadays (see in English [ ]). The analysis of genesis of Scriabin's idea of the "light symphony", realized by inclusion of the "Luce" part in the "Prometheus" ("The Poem of Fire") score [ ], ended in our publication of a special monograph on the subject [

Every time Scriabin played a composition, he played it differently, depending on the mood of the day. The cover photo shows him emerging from his "trance" of composition, after putting the last trill on the "Poem of Fire." Yes, all this was so. But lately, the world hears anew from Scriabin. His interpreters have sprouted like crocuses on a snowy spring morning. Sviatoslav Richter toured all America last year with Scriabin's Seventh Sonata, the "White Mass," the only Scriabin Stravinsky can stand. "It needed to be heard," Richter said. Just what was Scriabin's newness in those Tsarist days? For one, he put "fire," "color," and "light" into his piano and orchestral music. He titled pieces "Dark Flames," "Towards the Flame," and his Fifth Symphony, "The Poem of Fire," was performed with a clavier of colored lights. The theme was inspired by Prometheus, who gave the flame of wisdom to man. Irving Kolodin once analyzed Scriabin's musical process as "rubbing tones together until they give off musical sparks." Scriabin also incorporated the concept of "flight" in music... gusts of upsurge or
