war sterreichischer Komponist, Dirigent und Musikwissenschafter und wurde am 3. Dezember 1883 in Wien geboren und starb am 15. September 1945 Mittersill (Salzburg).
Bis 1918 Theaterkapellmeister, 1922-1934 Leiter der Wiener Arbeiter-Sinfoniekonzerte u. des Arbeiter-Gesangvereins. Zu Lebzeiten unerkannt geblieben, gewann sein Werk seit 1950 an Bedeutung.
Webern begann hnlich wie sein Lehrer Arnold Schnberg im Stil der Sptromantik. Mit den 5 George-Liedern op. 3 u. 4 (1907-1909) wird das Stadium der freien Atonalitt erreicht, mit den Liedern op. 12 (1915-1917) beginnt eine Schaffensperiode, die nur Vokalwerke enthlt und die Hinwendung zur zwlftnigen Reihentechnik bringt, die er in den 'Drei Volkstexten op. 17' (1924) zum erstenmal anwandte.

The primary reference for the following list are the appendicies of [Moldenhauer 1979] NB All umlauted vowels in German are indicated in a traditional convention of simply following the vowel with an 'e'. This avoids difficulties of browser and terminal capabilities regarding fonts. All published pieces but for Op. 17, 24, and 28, were, originally published by Universal-Edition Vienna.

    Biography
    Austrian composer and conductor, a specialist in lyrics, art songs, chorale works and instrumental works. Studying musicology at the Vienna University, receiving his PhD in 1906, he was a student and disciple of Schoenberg. After conductorships in Austria and Germany, he settled in Modling after WW I, teaching composition. Weber's output was small, just 31 works, for chorus, orchestra and three cantatas. He was a composer of the later romantic and expressionist period, representing the 12-tone music scale. Shot accidentally by an American soldier, he died on 9/15/1945, Mittersill.     Webern was born in Vienna Austria , as Anton Friedrich Wilhelm von Webern . He was the only surviving son of Carl von Webern, a civil servant, and Amelie (née Geer) who was a competent pianist and accomplished singer - the only obvious source of the future composer's talent. He never used his middle names and dropped the von in 1918 as directed by the Austrian government's reforms after World War I.     1902 - Graduated from the Klagenfurt Humanistisches Gymnasium, he attended performances of Wagner operas at the Bayreuth Festival, and these left a deep impression on the young musician.
    - He entered the University of Vienna, studying musicology and composition.
    1904 - Webern had become a private pupil of the composer Arnold Schoenberg.
    1906 - Received his Ph.D. degree with a dissertation on the Choralis Constantinus II of the Dutch composer Heinrich Isaac.
    - He held posts as coach and conductor in Vienna, Ischl, Innsbruck, Teplitz, Danzig, and Stettin. 1915-1916 - Webern enlisted for army service but was discharged because of poor eyesight.
