Emulator Resources
We use special emulators that support tools such as savestate and frame advance, and generate movie files from them. These movie files are nothing more than a recording of input. They do not contain images or video. All movie format specifications can be found here. : The majority of rerecording emulators are third-party modifications of existing open-source emulators. In most cases, only these rerecording emulators can play and make TASes, and not the official emulator. We do not by any means claim that using any of these emulators will guarantee "correct" results. There may be bugs in these emulators which have gone unnoticed due to lack of testing. You should read DesyncHelpTAS before making any serious projects. All movies are highly dependent on the timing and the slightest difference may cause a desync . We cannot help you if you lose work due to desync problems. You must also read the Rules if you plan to submit your work to this site.

ESNES v0.14a 08/05/97
Discontinued DOS Lord ESNES and Ishmair made a great SNES emulator. It is written in assembly and has sound support, thanks to Ishmair's efforts. It was one of the best. Now, it has merged with NLKSNES to become NLKE.
NLKE v0.05b 01/01/00
Discontinued DOS ESNES and NLKSNES joined forces so the authors could work on one emulator together. NLKE was born. This emulator has all the features of ESNES along with the speed of NLKSNES. Transparencies are also available, although unoptimized rather slow. There's also a simple GUI as well. NLKE is better than many but ZSNES is faster and more compatibible.
NLKSNES v0.15d 09/16/97
Discontinued DOS This emulator was one of the fastest SNES emulators there was, and it even featured Mode7. There's no sound support, though. It merged with ESNES to because NLKE.

Emulators
From wiki.gp2x.org
Jump to: navigation search Emulators are applications which reproduce another, different computer system in software allowing the software from one machine to be run on another. Emulators are used for a wide range of purposes. For example, OS X provides emulation on x86 computers to allow old PowerPC binaries to be run. Microsoft provide an ARM PDA emulator for testing applications without having to repeatedly copy things onto a device. One of the most popular uses for emulators however is to play video games from older (or in some exceptional circumstances, current) systems on modern hardware (generally PCs but the GP2X, GP32 and PSP are also popular platforms for running emulators). Nintendo sells a number of official emulators through its Virtual Console service for the Wii.

GP2X and emulators
One of the most popular uses for the GP2X is to run emulators of old video games systems (though some old home computers and calculators are also emulated). The GP2X is suited to this task because it has a fairly standard control layout similar (or almost identical to) the layouts of the input devices of the systems it emulates. Furthermore, it has a 320x240 resolution LCD which is large enough to accommodate most older systems without any downscaling. Of course, it is also portable meaning you can play these games whenever and wherever you want without having to carry a TV, machine and collection of cartridges.

The Emulator category will contain the best Commodore 64 Emulators available for the PC or Apple Macintosh. Commodore 64 Emulators will allow you to run old Commodore 64 software, especially games like you would on an original C64 machine. The emulators have evolved considerably over the years, since the days of the old C64s for MS-DOS by programmer Miha Peternel and distributed by the company Seattle Labs. The graphics and sound features are superb and very similar to the original C64 machine. There is very few software titles that will not run on the emulators. The one game we are aware of that does not function on some C64 emulators, is the impressive Frankie Goes To Hollywood game by Denton Designs and released by Ocean Software. Although the game does appear to work - you will find that the sub games which are crucial to progressing in the game will cause the emulators to crash. The Commodore Zone still recommends CCS 64, as we still maintain this is the best C64 emulator and the author of CCS, Per Hakan Sundell has put a lot of time and effort into CCS over the years and deserves the success he has had with it. If you decide to use CCS 64 on a regular basis then we strongly urge you to purchase the full registered version of CCS 64. Its only a few dollars and its great value for money. Per Hakan Sundell was also the creator of the PlaySID software on the Amiga computer and of the amazing C64 music demo / slideshow that appeared on the Amiga.

Open Virtual Platforms (OVP) ( http://www.OVPworld.org ) includes the freely available simulator OVPsim, a library of models of processors, peripherals and platforms, and APIs which enable users to develop their own models. The models in the library are open source, written in C, and include the MIPS 4K, 24K and 34K cores. These models are created and maintained by Imperas ( http://www.imperas.com ) and in partnership with MIPS Technologies have been tested and assigned the MIPS-Verified(tm) mark. The OVP site also includes models of ARM, Tensilica and OpenCores/openRisc processors. Sample MIPS-based platforms include both bare metal environments and platforms for booting unmodified Linux binary images. These platforms/emulators are available as source or binaries and are fast, free, and easy to use. OVPsim is developed and maintained by Imperas and is very fast (100s of million instructions per second), and built to handle multicore architectures. RACE TECH EMULATORS I'm very pleased that Jeff Hoffman has allowed me to reproduce his 'in-depth' look at front suspension, with a particular view to cartridge emulators. Anyone wanting to improve their front suspension set-up, but really doesn't want to go to all that trouble of transplanting a front end from another model, or indeed wants to retain a completely OEM appearance, this one's for you. Jeff's text appears in mauve below. He has kindly included his e-mail address, so if you have any questions you can contact the man direct ! Damper Rod Forks vs. Cartridge Forks vs. Cartridge Fork Emulators By Jeff Hoffman When talking about front suspension on motorcycles, we hear terms like "Damper Rods" and "Cartridges." We know they refer to different types of forks, but do we really understand how they work and how they are different? You may also hear the term "Emulator" being thrown around when talking about damper rod forks, but have no idea what these are or what they do. That is OK, because I will attempt to answer these questions, along with a few others: Before I continue, let me explain a few terms and acronyms:

    Terminal Uses a PC Monitor
One may use a PC (including it's monitor) to emulate a terminal. But PCs have become so powerful that only a small portion of the PC's capacity is utilized to run the emulation. So why not make a tiny PC that has low computing capability so it is barely able do the task of emulating a terminal. Then call this tiny device a text terminal and point out that one must supply and plug in a PC monitor in order to use this terminal. Such devices exist and are only about an inch high. They are sometimes referred to as small footprint terminals. Their advantage is that they are cheap, take up little space, and might be able to use surplus monitors that otherwise might be discarded.
    Color
    Emulated text terminals
In contrast to the monochrome or most real text terminals, an emulated text terminal usually has colors since it displays on a PC color monitor. See Colors on Emulated Terminals
    Old real text terminal
Some real terminals had color displays but most had either no color or fixed "color" displays other than white such as green or amber. All terminals had black (electron beam turned off = zero brightness). A real color terminal can change the color of the text and background to many different colors while a monochrome terminal can only change the brightness of a fixed color. However, changing the brightness, etc. gives a lot of possibilities. For example, a black and white (monochrome) terminal can have white, grey, and black by varying the brightness. Some words can be black on a light grey background while other are highlighted by black on white. In addition there is white on black, underlining, and blinking.
