The GNU Compiler for the Java TM Programming Language
GCJ is a portable, optimizing, ahead-of-time compiler for the Java Programming Language. It can compile Java source code to Java bytecode (class files) or directly to native machine code, and Java bytecode to native machine code. Compiled applications are linked with the GCJ runtime, libgcj , which provides the core class libraries, a garbage collector, and a bytecode interpreter. libgcj can dynamically load and interpret class files, resulting in mixed compiled/interpreted applications. It has been merged with GNU Classpath and supports most of the 1.4 libraries plus some 1.5 additions. GCJ can also be configured as a cross-compiler, suitable for embedded systems programming. Recent versions of the GNU Debugger support GCJ ( short tutorial

    Author: David J. Eck eck@hws.edu
W ELCOME TO the fifth edition of Introduction to Programming Using Java , a free, on-line textbook on introductory programming, which uses Java as the language of instruction. This book is directed mainly towards beginning programmers, although it might also be useful for experienced programmers who want to learn something about Java. It is certainly not meant to provide complete coverage of the Java language. The fifth edition covers Java 5.0 and can also be used with later versions of Java. You will find many Java applets on the web pages that make up this book, and many of those applets require Java 5.0 or higher to function. Earlier editions, which covered earlier versions of Java, are still available; see the preface for links. You can download Introduction to Programming Using Java for use on your own computer. PDF and print versions are also available. Links can be found at the bottom of this page.

    77. Java2COM: Java - COM Bridge
Enables java applets and applications to use and call COM objects from java code. By Neva Object Technology, Inc.
    http://www.nevaobject.com/_docs/_java2com/java2com.htm
CreateHeader(9,9); Java2COM is a bi-directional Java-COM bridging tool that enables Java applications to use COM objects and makes possible to expose Java objects as if they were COM objects. Java2COM, which was designed to provide lightweight wrappers for COM protocols, attempts to preserve various semantics of COM. The main benefit of such an approach is two-folded: on one hand, it simplifies porting of existing Visual Basic or C++ code to Java and gives COM-savvy developers a head-start. On the other hand, it makes it easier to keep up with changes in COM technology while COM evolves. Another design goal was to minimize the use of the so-called "native" code. While the native code is necessary to bridge Java and COM, it is almost always desirable to limit the exposure to native code to a relatively small subset of classes/methods that the rest of the system can be built upon. To communicate with COM/Windows world, Java2COM uses Java-To-Native-To-Java interface called Coroutine that offers the following basic facilities:
    • calling a function exported from a dynamic link library calling through the function pointer stored in a COM virtual function table marshaling data across Java sandbox boundary exposing Java methods as though they were native Windows functions building a COM virtual function table from a set of Java methods.

    Welcome to Java.CertifiedProgrammer.com!
This site is dedicated to those programmers who are studying for the Java Certification exams. When I just started studying for the Java certification exams, I wanted a centralized place for all the resources I've come across. Like most programmers, I'm constantly jumping from computer to computer throughout the workday and at home so I don't want to keep moving bookmark files/favorite folders around. Also, I've been into web programming in one way or another during the past 5+ years and wanted to showcase some of my work. If you are looking for some certification tips/techniques, please be sure to check out the Java Mnemonics or Mock Exams sections. Try a Java exam free at Brainbench Also, once you have mastered java or other programming language, why not try: eLance.com . I am amazed how much extra spending cash I have made in the last 6 months, all in my spare time. Most of the work is pretty routine programming tasks. Just register and search for the word "Java".
