Design, Realization, and Evaluation of xShare for Impromptu Sharing of Mobile Phones
By Yunxin Liu, Ahmad Rahmati, Hyukjae Jang, Yuanhe Huang, Lin Zhong, Yongguang Zhang, and Shensheng Zhang Mobile phones are truly personal devices loaded with personal data such as photos, contacts, and call history. Yet it is often necessary or desirable to share our phones with others. This is especially true as mobile phones are integrating features conventionally provided by other dedicated devices, from MP3 players to games consoles. Yet existing phones assume a single user and provide little protection for private data and applications when a phone is shared. That is, when we lend our phones to others, we give away complete access. In this work, we present xShare, a protection solution to address this problem. xShare allows phone owners to rapidly specify what they want to share and place the phone into a restricted mode where only the data and applications intended for sharing can be accessed.

INTRODUCTION
Mobile Computing : A technology that allows transmission of data, via a computer, without having to be connected to a fixed physical link. Mobile voice communication is widely established throughout the world and has had a very rapid increase in the number of subscribers to the various cellular networks over the last few years. An extension of this technology is the ability to send and receive data across these cellular networks. This is the principle of mobile computing. Mobile data communication has become a very important and rapidly evolving technology as it allows users to transmit data from remote locations to other remote or fixed locations. This proves to be the solution to the biggest problem of business people on the move - mobility. In this article we give an overview of existing cellular networks and describe in detail the CDPD technology which allows data communications across these networks. Finally, we look at the applications of Mobile Computing in the real world.
EXISTING CELLULAR NETWORK ARCHITECTURE
Mobile telephony took off with the introduction of cellular technology which allowed the efficient utilisation of frequencies enabling the connection of a large number of users. During the 1980's analogue technology was used. Among the most well known systems were the NMT900 and 450 (Nordic Mobile Telephone) and the AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone Service). In the 1990's the digital cellular technology was introduced with GSM (Global System Mobile) being the most widely accepted system around the world. Other such systems are the DCS1800 (Digital Communication System) and the PCS1900 (Personal Communication System).

Mobile Computing Solutions Benefits - Speeding up
by Reji K Paul (Software Programmer, Excellone Technologies) Mobile computing solutions have benefits which come under two headings basically namely tangible benefits and intangible benefits. Tangible benefits include those benefits that are easily quantifiable, while intangible benefits are those that are difficult to quantify. To be more specific, tangible benefits can be put in quantitative terms, like economic benefits. Mobile computing solutions makes it possible to cut down on the professional's valuable time on administrative work. Boosting industrial productivity and sales per person are few of the tangible benefits. Tangible benefits also bring along with them some added benefits like the maintenance of high order fulfillment ratio, considerable reduction in real time inventory cost through the timely placement of orders and the smooth flow of information. The mobile computing has also facilitated service vehicles with on-the-spot invoice production which brings in better cash flow with short payment cycle. The citation / ticketing application with credit card payment is a fine way to illustrate the tangible benefits of mobile computing.

Samsung Galaxy S: How Does It Measure Up to the Competition?
This spring, Samsung introduced the Samsung Galaxy S , a super Android smartphone to rival the HTC EVO 4G, the various Droids (both Motorola's and HTC's) and of course, the iPhone 4. Versions of the Galaxy S will be making its way to U.S. shores this summer in four different form factors to all four major U.S. carriers. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the original European Galaxy S and did some quick side-by-side comparisons with the other hot phones of the summer. Design and Display Read more...

Technical Committee on Wearable Information Systems

The TC on Wearable Information Systems is devoted to issues concerning the wearing of information based technology on the human body. The steady decrease in the size and increase in functionality of hardware components has made the wearing of computers and other electronics by humans, not only feasible, but likely. The committee is concerned with the characteristics of the technology that will be worn, the applications with wearable information systems, and the ergonomic impact of wearable systems. The TC recognizes that wearable information systems is inherently interdisciplinary and must be addressed in such a manner.
