Intro
gtk2-perl is the collective name for a set of perl bindings for Gtk+ 2.x and various related libraries. These modules make it easy to write Gtk and Gnome applications using a natural, perlish, object-oriented syntax. Our documentation isn't what we'd like it to be, so don't code in a vacuum. For best results, discuss gtk2-perl with the authors on the gtk-perl mailing list , or in #gtk-perl on irc.gnome.org. If you're interested in helping us write documentation (reference, tutorials, HowTo's), join the list and let us know. Please report any bugs with gtk2-perl in the gtk2-perl section of the Gnome.org bugzilla bug tracker (look for the " File a bug " link on the lower right hand corner of the Bugzilla page), or on the gtk-perl mailing list . Thanks!

Perl/Tk (also known as pTk) is a collection of modules and code that attempts to wed the easily configured Tk 8 widget toolkit to the powerful lexigraphic, dynamic memory, I/O, and object-oriented capabilities of Perl 5. In other words, it is an interpreted scripting language for making widgets and programs with Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) Perl or Practical Extraction and Report Language is described by Larry Wall, Perl's author, as follows: "Perl is an interpreted language optimized for scanning arbitrary text files, extracting information from those text files, and printing reports based on that information. It's also a good language for any system management tasks. The language is intended to be practical (easy to use, efficient, complete) rather than beautiful (tiny, elegant, minimal)."

Effective Perl Programming master class at Frozen Perl
1 Comment At Frozen Perl 2010 in Minneapolis, I'm teaching a new master class based on my latest book, Effective Perl Programming, 2nd Edition . Perl has changed quite a bit since Joseph Hall wrote the first edition over 10 years ago. Josh McAdams and I have added a lot of new information as well as updated the existing material. In the one-day class for intermediate Perl programmers, I'll cover selected topics from the book, including:
    • Working with Unicode in Perl Tricks with filehandles New regex features in Perl 5.10 and later

    SOAP-Lite 0.71 released
SOAP-Lite 0.71 is available from CPAN at http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?SOAP%3A%3ALite. 0.71 is mainly a bug fix release - all users are encouraged to upgrade. The included Changes file lists the differences to previous versions. 0.71 will be the last release to run under perl 5.005 - we've decided to drop support for perls that old from the next release on. If you're using SOAP::Lite and haven't got a newer perl, you should consider upgrading now... Martin Kutter March 02, 2008
