LATEST NEWS ON THE NEW WORLD DATA SYSTEM
Please note that, as of the end of 2008 following the ICSU General Assembly in Maputo, the FAGS Council no longer exists and that the FAGS Services will be incorporated into the new World Data System (WDS) of ICSU in 2009. A similar procedure will involve members of the World Data Centre (WDC) grouping of ICSU. In addition, it is envisaged that additional (i.e. non-FAGS and non-WDC) organisations will be encouraged to join the new WDS. When the WDS has its own web site, this FAGS web site will be discontinued. At the time of writing, a Transition Team composed of former FAGS and WDC Council members is discussing how best to organise the transition arrangements to the new WDS without interruptions in the services provided by existing organisations.
Introduction to FAGS
The Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Data Analysis Services (FAGS) was formed by the International Council for Science ( ICSU in 1956 and includes today thirteen Permanent Services each operating under the authority of one or more of the intererested Scientific Unions: International Astronomical Union ( IAU ), International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (

Our goal is to provide quality geophysics equipment like ground penetrating radar, seismographs, magnetometers, electromagnetic systems, GPS systems, resistivity instruments and more in a cost effective manner. With 22 years experience, we understand the requirements of the demanding field schedule. We will not start your rental till the day you receive your order, not like others who start charging the day it’s shipped. We stock a complete line of supplies for the job also. If you need field personnel for your next project, we can provide that, too. Please give us a call for your next order. Geophysics involves using physical theories and measurements to explore the Earth's properties. Modern Geophysics instrumentation improvements have aided in the progress of Geophysical studies. Today's modern Geophysics' equipment for exploration geophysics allows geophysicists to monitor the Earth's properties including seismic activity, gravitational force, magnetic fields, electrical charges, electromagnetic charges, and more. This information is key for many uses, including the search for natural substances such as oil, gas, minerals, and water. Read more...

    What is Geophysics?
See also: DESCRIPTION Geophysics is an interdisciplinary physical science concerned with the nature of the earth and its environment and as such seeks to apply the knowledge and techniques of physics, mathematics and chemistry to understand the structure and dynamic behaviour of the earth and its environment. The required sequence of Mathematics, Physics and Geophysics courses is designed to provide a basic structure on which to build a program with science electives normally selected from Geology, Astronomy, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry courses. Why is Geophysics important? Geophysics is the science which deals with investigating the Earth, using the methods and techniques of Physics. The physical properties of earth materials (rocks, air, and water masses) such as density, elasticity, magnetization, and electrical conductivity all allow inference about those materials to be made from measurements of the corresponding physical fields - gravity, seismic waves, magnetic fields, and various kinds of electrical fields. Because Geophysics incorporates the sciences of Physics, Mathematics, Geology (and therefore Chemistry) it is a truly multidisciplinary physical science.

Measurements show that the Yellowstone Caldera underwent rapid uplift from 1923 to 1985; this was followed by ten years of subsidence. The report also summarizes the University of Utah's research program to monitor the caldera using GPS stations. Information on surrounding fault zones is also provided. more info
