Water Resources in California
Water resource issues in California involve both water supply and water pollution. There is a great deal of overlap between the two sets of issues. Here, we look at some of the tremendous amount of information available on water supply in California. Browsing through these sites will lead you to most of the information available on the web about water supply in California. There is a lot on water pollution here as well, but if you want to focus specifically on water pollution, see Pollution in California Water Resources on the Web Books on Water Resources Water Resources on the Web
  • California Issues contains briefings on critical issues related to water in California. including such important topics as the Bay-Delta, and wetlands in California There are also several beautiful water-related maps and some very good publications (real paper) that you can order, at http://www.water-ed.org/store/default.asp . From the Water Education Foundation , this is a good place to start learning about water issues in California. The U.S. Geological Survey has information on the

      Overview
Recent droughts and floods in the EU, India, Australia, China, USA and Africa highlight the need for our water resources to be better managed. The aim of the course is to provide a sound understanding of sustainable water resources issues by developing the knowledge and skills necessary for planning and management to meet the needs of the built and natural environment within the context of climate change. Achieving this aim will contribute significantly to achieving the UN Millenium Development Goals as well as the goals espoused in the UNESCO Hydrology for the Environment, Life and Policy (HELP) initiative. The Water Resources and Catchment programme builds on the success of our joint MSc water Resources Engineering Management programme with the University of Glasgow which trained over 400 people that are now working in different parts of the world. In the UK graduate destinations have included international water and environmental consulting groups, such as: Employment has also been secured with such as the Environment Agency Scottish Environmental Protection Agency Scottish Water , local authorities and water services companies. Overseas participants have returned to their home countries and are now holding positions of responsibility in the water and environmental field.

The African Water Page is alive again
After a break of nearly 8 years whilst the author was on the staff of the World Bank where is was considered that running the African Water Page may have resulted in a conflict of interest, Len Abrams retired from the Bank in September 2009 and is now picking up the site again. In the "thewaterpage" has been taken over by some one else but it is still used as the name of this site but is not the URL.
Over the next few months the page will undergo a complete revamp. Let's see how it goes. Keep watching.

CONCEPTS:
The purpose of this unit is to give the student a general overview of water; how it relates to the earth and more specifically the Nevada-Arizona-California area. This will be achieved by:
  • A summary view of the Colorado River watershed and the purpose of Hoover Dam and other Reclamation projects. Activities designed to introduce the student to water quality, water quantity, water related vocabulary, and conservation of water resources.
INTRODUCTION - WATER IN THE DESERT:
One glance at Hoover Dam will reveal a most obvious fact - there's a lot of water behind the dam. You might think that there is enough water for thousands of years. Actually, there is enough to supply 29 million households (about equal to the population of California) for one year. In the regions of the Southwest where people are water wise, Lake Mead could supply twice this many families with water for one year.

Welcome to the Nile Basin Society
The Nile Basin Society (NBS) is a Canadian membership-based non profit organization independent (organizationally and financially) from both the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), and the Nile Basin Discourse (NBD). We aim at real involvement of true relevant NGOs in the Nile Basin Initiative that is driven by the NGOs and not by the NBI donors/countries. Real involvement that include participation from project planning to project evaluation/monitoring and not just as 'implementers". The NBS welcomes the Khartoum Declaration of the Nile Basin Discourse particularly for its call for wider public participation, NGO and communities involvement in the NBI process. We hope that the NBI and the funding agencies would adopt the recommendations. We are delighted by the decision of the African Development Bank investigative independent unit (known as CRMU) in accepting the request of 5 international NGOs to investigate Ethiopia's Gibe 3 Dam on the Omo River that was proposed for funding.
