From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search A natural wetland Water resources are sources of water that are useful or potentially useful to humans . Uses of water include agricultural industrial household recreational and environmental activities. Virtually all of these human uses require fresh water 97% of water on the Earth is salt water, and only 3% as fresh water of which slightly over two thirds is frozen in glaciers and polar ice caps The remaining unfrozen freshwater is mainly found as groundwater, with only a small fraction present above ground or in the air. Fresh water is a renewable resource , yet the world's supply of clean, fresh water is steadily decreasing. Water demand already exceeds supply in many parts of the world and as the world population continues to rise, so too does the water demand. Awareness of the global importance of preserving water for ecosystem services has only recently emerged as, during the 20th century, more than half the world’s wetlands have been lost along with their valuable environmental services. Biodiversity -rich freshwater ecosystems are currently declining faster than marine or land ecosystems The framework for allocating water resources to water users (where such a framework exists) is known as water rights A graphical distribution of the locations of water on Earth.

    Storm Water Management
Develops, implements and enforces the City's Storm Water Management Program. The goal of this program is to reduce the amount of pollutants that enter our Storm Drain System.
    Water Conservation
Plans and coordinates City water conservation efforts, including public education, monitoring and enforcement activities (Title 11).
    Residential Water Survey Program
This Citywide program is offered free-of-charge to water customers who pay their utility bills to the City of Tracy and their single- or multi-family (up to eight units) dwelling was built prior to 1992. As part of this program, a Water Conservation Representative will tour your property to identify leaks and offer water and money saving opportunities. Participants may receive water-saving equipment and information, including low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and other free items. The Representative will also evaluate your landscape and irrigation systems for possible water and money savings tips. Since this program emphasizes customer education, it is important the tenant/occupant be present at the time of the survey.

No need to stress about keeping up in an evolving technological industry – our team can help. Proficient with more than 100 public domain and proprietary models, we apply models and develop special algorithms that specifically address individual client project requirements. At the forefront of integrated ground and surface water modeling technology, BCI developed the first fully integrated modeling system linking HSPF and MODFLOW and a next-generation, grid-based integrated model to better simulate Florida’s unique hydrologic character. In 2006, BCI was one of three companies chosen to work with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) on the development of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for various impaired waters throughout the state of Florida. As with many of our clients, we were chosen for our responsiveness and technical and project management skills.

The Department's Water Programs are responsible for protecting the quality of Florida’s drinking water as well as its rivers, lakes, wetlands, springs and sandy beaches, and for reclaiming mined lands. The Programs provide the technical basis for setting the state’s water quality standards; develop the rules and guidance for implementing these standards; and conduct permitting, compliance, and enforcement programs to establish these standards throughout the state. They also implement a comprehensive statewide watershed management program designed to identify and restore impaired water bodies. In addition, the Water Programs also provide $100-200 million yearly to build or improve domestic wastewater and drinking water facilities, to reclaim mined lands, and to implement stormwater and other nonpoint source management projects.

The Water Resources Data System (WRDS) is a clearinghouse of hydrological and climatological data for the State of Wyoming. WRDS is funded by the Wyoming Water Development Office and housed within the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at the University of Wyoming. The Wyoming State Climate Office (SCO) is a branch of WRDS, and together we provide a variety of services ranging from the development of enhanced drought-monitoring products to the online dissemination of water resources publications. WRDS and the SCO also support a variety of stakeholder groups by assisting in the development of the State Water Plan and helping to coordinate long-term monitoring efforts throughout the region.

    Water Resources
Iraq Table of Contents Iraq has more water than most Middle Eastern nations, which led to the establishment of one of the world's earliest and most advanced civilizations. Strong, centralized governmentsa phenomenon known as "hydraulic despotism"emerged because of the need for organization and for technology in order to exploit the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Archaeologists believe that the high point in the development of the irrigation system occurred about 500 A.D., when a network of irrigation canals permitted widespread cultivation that made the river basin into a regional granary. Having been poorly maintained, the irrigation and drainage canals had deteriorated badly by the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, when the Mongols destroyed what remained of the system. About one-fifth of Iraq's territory consists of farmland. About half of this total cultivated area is in the northeastern plains and mountain valleys, where sufficient rain falls to sustain agriculture. The remainder of the cultivated land is in the valleys of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, which receive scant rainfall and rely instead on water from the rivers. Both rivers are fed by snowpack and rainfall in eastern Turkey and in northwest Iran. The rivers' discharge peaks in March and in May, too late for winter crops and too early for summer crops. The flow of the rivers varies considerably every year. Destructive flooding, particularly of the Tigris, is not uncommon, and some scholars have placed numerous great flood legends, including the biblical story of Noah and the ark, in this area. Conversely, years of low flow make irrigation and agriculture difficult.
