The impact of virtual manipulatives on first grade geometry instruction and learning.
This study investigated the impact of virtual manipulatives on first grade students' academic achievement as well as on student attitudes, behaviors, and interactions.
Thirty-one (31) first grade students were randomly assigned as·sign

    Cocos
Cocos (creation of optimized cut out sheets) is a program written by Oliver Römer which automatically creates cut out sheets for paper models from 3 dimensional textured objects. The input must be a non self intersecting orientable manifold polygonal mesh, that describes the surface of an object. Cocos creates a PDF file containing the parts for building the object as a paper model. The PDF file can be printed on a normal computer printer. After the parts of the paper model are cut out, they must be folded at the dotted lines and finally assembled with some glue according to the numbered tabs. We collaborate with the IAI (Institut für Angewandte Informatik) in order to create paper models of buildings from IFC data. IFC (industry foundation classes) is a standard that can be used for very detailed descriptions of buildings. We presented our work at the Build IT exhibition in Berlin. Here are some examples:
    FZK House
    New Library Building
    Pyramid of Karlsruhe
    Bunny

    Soccer Ball

    Spaceship

Welcome to all of you interested in using Voronoi diagrams for spatial analysis!
My background is in the Spatial Sciences - among other things geology, geography, forestry, agriculture, cartography, surveying and, for the last few years, GIS in its many forms. Along the way I started to see many common issues in all of these, and felt that many of us were re-inventing solutions, and often doing it badly. After a while a pattern emerged: we had an extraordinarily useful tool in the Delaunay triangulation - Voronoi diagram dual representation of spatial relationships, and it should be used more often. While I have many friends in computer science, especially computational geometry, this site is not primarily about theoretical developments, although I certainly want to include their work. It is primarily for the practitioner of some spatial science who is looking for a way of expressing his particular problem. I hope you will find, as I have myself, that the Voronoi diagram often gives real insights into how to express your problem, and often how to produce an elegant solution.

Table of Contents. Abstract. We present some mathematical ideas that occur in art and computer graphics. We touch upon the geometry of similar triangles, rigid motions in three space, perspective transformations, and projective geometry. We discuss computations behind rendering objects in perspective. We then describe vanishing points, answer how to measure distance in a receding direction in a perspective drawing and why a circle in three space becomes an ellipse when drawn in perspective. We use MAPLE generated computations and graphics to illustrate the ideas.
