Knot Theory
Knot Theory is the mathematical study of knots. A mathematical knot has no loose or dangling ends; the ends are joined to form a single twisted loop. The central problem of knot theory is distinguishing between various knots and classifying them. The best way to learn about knots is to make some knots and play with them.

Welcome to the KnotPlot Site!
Here you will find a collection of knots and links, viewed from a (mostly) mathematical perspective. Nearly all of the images here were created with KnotPlot, a fairly elaborate program to visualize and manipulate mathematical knots in three and four dimensions. You can download KnotPlot and try it on your computer, but first you may want to look at some of the images in the picture gallery.

A knot from a blue and red string A knot is a fixed looping of a piece of string or rope . Knots are often used for binding things together. While a knot is often made from rope, it can also be made from many other things. In fact, a knot is actually the condition a long flexible object is in. For example, hair can be tied in a knot. The ends of balloons are tied in a knot to prevent the air from escaping. The average person over 5 or so years of age is likely capable of tying a knot; most of these knots people tie are probably with their shoelaces . Ribbons are also tied in a knot so as to appear pretty, as when wrapped around a gift . In addition, knots are also made by sailors in many different forms and for many different purposes. There are even people who have adopted knot-making as a hobby. Welcome to Fishing Knots.
Sharp hooks and good fishing knots are essential factors in fishing. Most break offs are due to poor knots. It is essential to spend time on learning a few basic knots and, when tying them, take time and do a good job.
Choose the right fishing knot and tie it correctly. Lubricate knots with water or saliva before drawing tight. Draw knots as tight as possible. Trim tag ends close to the fishing knots.
The average angler needs perhaps no more than three or four basic fishing knots, but these knots relate directly to his mode of fishing. The game fisherman need have little interest in the knots used by the trout fisherman, who, in turn, uses fishing knots that are not necessarily suitable for the bream fisherman.
See the fishing knots

Tying good fishing knots is one of the most important things to learn. Practice, practice, practice!
The knot can make all the difference between boating a big fish, or losing it. I suggest that you select only those few fishing knots that are of the greatest use to you, and practice, practice, practice tying them until they become second nature to you. It is most important that you use knots that can be tied in an easily remembered manner. There is little point using a knot that can only be tied by reference to a book.

Friday, June 06, 2008 Grace Hi Lisa: I wish I had a concrete answer for you. About 5 months ago, I was experiencing something similar. Throughout that ordeal, I investigated this phenomenon, and also came up with Globus Hystericus. I did mention it to my ENT and he seemed to want nothing to do with treating it, because from what I read, there are underlying Anxiety issues involved. He mentioned seeing a psychiatrist or a neurologist. At the time of my experience, I was also taking lorazepam. Only after taking it for about 4 months did I come to believe the lorazepam was creating more of an anxiety response in me, so I stopped taking it and most of my anxiety and that feeling in my throat subsided.
