Math Quotes and Sayings
Math is like love : a simple idea but it can get complicated. The essence of math is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. Math is the science which uses easy words for hard ideas. Round numbers are always false. For the things of this world cannot be made known without a knowledge of math. In mathematics I can report no deficiency, except that it be that men do not sufficently understand the use of the Pure Mathematics. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Mathematics is the handwriting on the human consciousness of the very Spirit of Life itself. The mathematics is not there till we put it there. God exists since mathematics is consistent, and the Devil exists since we cannot prove it. What is algebra exactly; is it those three-cornered things ? One can always reason with reason. It is not of the essence of mathematics to be occupied with the ideas of number and quantity. I have hardly ever known a mathematician who was capable of reasoning. Math is the queen of the sciences.

A man is like a fraction whose numerator is what he is and whose denominator is what he thinks of himself. The larger the denominator, the smaller the fraction. If you would make a man happy, do not add to his possessions but subtract from the sum of his desires.

This web site is devoted to the concerns raised by parents and scientists
about the invasion of our schools by the New-New Math
and the need to restore basic skills to math education. Mathematically Correct is the informal, nationwide organization that fights the Establishment
on behalf of sanity and quality in math education.
David Gelernter, NY Post Mathematics achievement in America is far below what we would like it to be. Recent " reform " efforts only aggravate the problem. As a result, our children have less and less exposure to rigorous, content-rich mathematics . The advocates of the new, fuzzy math have practiced their rhetoric well. They speak of higher-order thinking, conceptual understanding and solving problems, but they neglect the systematic mastery of the fundamental building blocks necessary for success in any of these areas. Their focus is on things like calculators, blocks, guesswork, and group activities and they shun things like algorithms and repeated practice. The new programs are shy on fundamentals and they also lack the mathematical depth and rigor that promotes greater achievement. Concerned parents are in a state of dismay and have begun efforts to restore content, rigor, and genuinely high expectations to mathematics education. This site provides relevant background and information for parents, teachers, board members and the public from around the country.

    Introduction
Category theory, a comparatively new field of mathematics, provides a universal framework for discussing fields of algebra and geometry. While the general theory and certain types of categories have attracted considerable interest, the area of homological algebra has proved most fruitful in areas of ring theory, group theory, and algebraic topology.

    Abel, Niels H. (1802 - 1829)
If you disregard the very simplest cases, there is in all of mathematics not a single infinite series whose sum has been rigorously determined. In other words, the most important parts of mathematics stand without a foundation.
    In G. F. Simmons, Calculus Gems , New York: Mcgraw Hill, Inc., 1992, p. 188. Abel, Niels H. (1802 - 1829)

He is like the fox, who effaces his tracks in the sand with his tail.
    In G. F. Simmons, Calculus Gems , New York: Mcgraw Hill, Inc., 1992, p. 177. Adams, Douglas (1952 - 2001)
Bistromathics itself is simply a revolutionary new way of understanding the behavior of numbers. Just as Einstein observed that space was not an absolute but depended on the observer's movement in space, and that time was not an absolute, but depended on the observer's movement in time, so it is now realized that numbers are not absolute, but depend on the observer's movement in restaurants.
