AD INFO

C ivil Smith, a regional director of the Federal Aviation Administration, is tasked with choosing flight paths for commuter flights among five regional airports. There are to be flights from each airport to each of the others, so a flight path must be designated between each pair of airports. (Fortunately, there will never be flights going in both directions at once between any two airports, so only one path is needed.) Since the commuter planes will all wish to fly at altitudes between 10,000 and 14,000 feet, it will be safer if none of the flight paths cross. However, try as he might, Civil can't seem to come up with a set of paths that doesn't involve at least one crossing point for two or more of the paths.
Today's challenge: Can you help Civil come up with flight paths among all the five airports that don't cross over one another at any point, or failing that, prove that it can't be done?

Capitol ceremony celebrates 153 Wisconsin School of Recognition recipients
State Superintendent Tony Evers honored 153 schools that earned Wisconsin School of Recognition awards at the State Capitol. 2010-11 Wisconsin
Schools of Recognition 96 Elementary Schools 33 Middle or Junior High Schools 24 High Schools The schools sent a team of district personnel for the Oct. 18 events. The Sherman Middle School Orchestra of Madison, under the direction of Cory Kurzynski, provided music during the reception and brunch. During the noon awards program, the Rufus King International School Choir from Milwaukee, under the direction of Michael Barna, provided music. Evers delivered a welcome, and First Lady Jessica Doyle presented remarks. Jeanan Yasiri, senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, directed the presentation of awards. Each school received a plaque and $2,000 for use on any school-related activity. Schools that earned School of Recognition awards for five consecutive years received a special flag to mark their achievement. To be eligible for Wisconsin School of Recognition honors, each school was among those with the highest poverty rates in the state, based on free and reduced-price school lunch data. Additionally, student achievement on statewide reading and mathematics assessments in each school was higher than the state average for schools with similar poverty rates and grade configurations. Each school also made adequate yearly progress for the past two years as defined under federal education laws. Finally, each school receives, or is eligible to receive, Title I funding, the federal program that provides aid for a variety of services to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are economically disadvantaged.
