IMU Awards and Prizes
The scientific prizes of the International Mathematical Union of the year 2010 have been awarded during the Opening Ceremony of ICM 2010 in Hyderabad, India on August 19, 2010. Shrimati Pratibha Patil, the Honourable President of India, has given away the awards (a medal and a cheque for each of the prize winners). Information about the 2010 winners can be found here . The slides ( PowerPoint PDF ) contain the citations as well as the names of the members of the various Prize Committees. A video of the Opening Ceremony can be found at the ICM 2010 online streaming archive
The International Mathematical Union grants four Prizes:
Fields Medal
Rolf Nevanlinna Prize Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize
for Applications of Mathematics
... Chern Medal Award
IMU Prizes are awarded every four years at the Opening Ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM). The Fields Medal recognizes outstanding mathematical achievement. The Rolf Nevanlinna Prize honors distinguished achievements in mathematical aspects of information science. The Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize is awarded for outstanding mathematical contributions that have found significant applications outside of mathematics. The Chern Medal is awarded to an individual whose accomplishments warrant the highest level of recognition for outstanding achievements in the field of mathematics.
The Fields Medal was first awarded in 1936, the Rolf Nevanlinna Prize in 1982, and the Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize in 2006. The Chern Medal is new, it is awarded for the first time in 2010.

What is MathNerds?
MathNerds provides free , discovery-based, mathematical guidance via an international, volunteer network of mathematicians.
MathNerds does not supply answers to homework, take home tests and the like; rather, we provide hints suggestions , and references to help our clients understand and solve their mathematical problems.
Our team members are unpaid volunteers whose only compensation for their efforts are the "Thank You" messages from our clients.

131. Square Root Calculator
Square roots of integers 2 through 100,000 to 30,000 decimal places. Site will also compute roots 2 through 15 of numbers with five or less significant digits to several hundred decimal places.
http://www.markknowsnothing.com/cgi-bin/sqrroots.cgi
Square Roots Computed to At Least 10,000 Decimal Places Enter a number with no more than 10,000 digits:
The square root of a positive number "x" is defined to be that number "a" that has the property that "a" multiplied by "a" is equal to "x".
Results computed to 60,000 decimal places are available here for all positive integers between 1 and 100,000. These results were computed at the rate of approximately one or two per minute on a Dell XPS 410 computer in the year 2008. The values were computed to an extra 200 decimal places using a Taylor series approach and then truncated, not rounded, to yield the published significance.
For all other numbers, results are calculated in real time to the first 10,000 digits.
For those wishing to automate queries to this page, use the following format to return the square root of "x" where x equals (for example) 123.456:
http://www.markknowsnothing.com/cgi-bin/sqrroots.php?x=123.456
Only one such request will be honored in any two-minute period.

Review Contents and Style Guide
Contents of Reviews
A review of a mathematical work should give a brief and clear account of its contents. Reviewing papers in applied mathematics should concentrate on the mathematical aspects. Reading the review is not intended to be a substitute for reading the original paper; the primary purpose is to help the user to decide whether he needs to read the original. The reviewer has, in principle, no responsibility for checking the correctness or novelty of the original, but if he does discover that it contains a significant error or that it overlaps significantly with other work, he should mention the fact. References to related work are always appreciated (see section citations below).
Style and Format
Reviews should preferably be written in English. However, German or French will be accepted in exceptional cases. They should be expressed concisely and clearly and should conform to normal standards of usage in the language chosen. A reader with a moderate knowledge of the language in question should be able to understand the review. In case of a translated title of the original, please check its correctness.
Citations
References to journal articles should be given in the form:
author [journal short title according to Zentralblatt MATH (See Serials and Journals database ), volume number, issue number, pages (publication year; Zbl number)]
