A B C D A D B C =1652625. I used to be very interested in finding large grids with this property - to this end I wrote some very complex programs to search for smaller grids and then "stitch them together" into larger grids. In the examples below, I have one 8 by 8 grid with 42 points on it (out of a total of 64), and one complete 6 by 4 grid with all 24 points - these were my master creations. I also found a complete grid which was 3 by 81, and I could have extended it even further, but the values were numbers hundreds of digits long. Another recreational math interest of mine has been square-packing. Here are a few examples I did:

Math-by-Mail - a correspondence program in recreational math
Abstract Word Stems Keywords ... Similar Titles
Abstract:
Math-by-mail is an extracurricular math enrichment program that gives students in school the opportunity to correspond with mathematicians and discuss topics in recreational math. The program is run by the Davidson Institute of Science Education at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
The correspondence is done through a series of math booklets dedicated to topics in recreational math. The booklets are available either in hardcopy or online via a special purpose website dedicated to the program. The correspondence with the mathematicians is conducted via an online forum available at the website. The completed booklets are sent to the mathematicians by mail or submitted electronically for review.
Math-by-Mail provides the talented student with enrichment that stimulates creative thinking and expands the student's knowledge way beyond the limits imposed by the curriculum and their peer environment.
Teachers who run the program in their schools have found Math-by-Mail useful for talented students, providing them with mathematical challenges and broadening their math horizons beyond the scope of the regular class curriculum.

Fun and Challenging Math Problems for the Young, and Young At Heart
These problems are aimed at junior high and high school students with a flare for mathematics and logic. These are "real world" problems, rather than abstract riddles about sets or trigonometry etc. The questions should be accessible to a wide audience, even if the answers are not. When you find a question that interests you, it's tempting to just read the answer at the end of this web page, but please don't - that would spoil the fun. Instead, think about the problem in your spare time for a few days. Talk about it with your friends. Then, if you're really not getting anywhere, or you think you've got the answer, come back and read the answer. Educators might want to present the problem on Friday, let the students think about it over the weekend, and talk about it on Monday.
  • A school has 1,000 students and 1,000 lockers, all in a row. They all start out closed. The first student walks down the line and opens each one. The second student closes the even numbered lockers. The third student approaches every third locker and changes its state. If it was open he closes it; if it was closed he opens it. The fourth student does the same to every fourth locker, and so on through 1,000 students. To illustrate, the tenth locker is opened by the first student, closed by the second, reopened by the fifth, and then closed by the tenth. All the other students pass by the tenth locker, so it winds up being closed. How many lockers are open?

    RECREATIONAL MATHEMATICS (BY AUTHOR NAMES)
This is a continuation of the series of pos ts on Math books.
There are tons of books out there on Recreational mathematics. Recreational math is loosely defined as follows in Wikipedia: "Not all problems in this field require a knowledge of advanced mathematics, and thus, recreational mathematics often piques the curiosity of non-mathematicians, and inspires their further study of mathematics. I personally think Recreational Math is a great way to introduce math concepts, and also learn to have fun with higher math learning, irrespective of any age or background.
I am listing a few of the books here, which I hope is of help to someone. I am not listing the ages here because they are meaningless in the case of my children, to appreciate and learn things. But the links to amazon should give you some idea on the books whether it is suitable for your family/children. Some books maybe advanced, but you may find some interesting and accessible pages in these books to explore with your children. Some of these books could be used as part of a weekly or monthly fun math club a co-op class. Many of these books are available in the library as well. Please see this is not an exhaustive list.
Also, do not forget to scroll down and check all those wonderful sites I have listed on Rec Math. Loads of stuff to see, explore and enjoy:)

    Curve-stitch Isometric Cube
The figure above is an instance of a design I created more than forty years ago. (This figure is covered by a Creative Commons license. For more information, click here .) A framed version of it hangs on my kitchen wall. That picture is a negative print (i.e., white on black) of an India ink drawing on vellum. It is a minor conversation piece—first-time viewers are often surprised to learn that the drawing contains no curves. More amazing to me is that I drew it with drafting pen and straightedge without introducing major imperfections. I cannot imagine repeating the feat! The figure shown here is a conversion of output generated using Adobe PostScript . It doesn’t reproduce the razor-sharp lines of the original, but it does capture the spirit of the figure. I recently replaced most of the graphics on this page with PNG, rather than GIF images. These images are much sharper, but the page loads slowly because the image files are bigger. (Sorry about that.) A SVG graphic of this figure can be found here , although not all browsers will render it properly. (Try zooming in and out and notice how the image changes.)
