61. 3.1416 = Pi EXACTLY. The New Apocalyptic Theory. Squaring The Circle Mathematics
A text that tries to prove that pi is 3.1416 exactly.
http://alkyone.com/mak-pi-gr/en/
SUBJECT : A New Approach to the Universal Constant "pi" Dear Sirs, Attached you will find an original, I would like to believe, research study, concerning «A new approach to the area of a circle» and thus a new approach to the Universal Constant "pi". The innovative aspect of the new approach is attributed to avoid the insurmountable obstacles presented by the intervention of square roots and infinite series when we try to calculate the circumference as the Upper Limit of the perimeter of a regular Polygon inscribed in the circle, according to the relevant "deceptive" definition, i.e. o The New Theory considers the above way as an "impasse", which makes us to believe that the so derived number
pi' = 3.14159 2 6535 .... is an irrational and trancendental number. By the new way we approach the area of the circle as the "Lower Limit" of the area of the Superscribed Regular Polygon, coming from the square of side ao = 2R , and we use as main tool the "tangent", the values of which can be easily calculated, with the desirable accuracy, using as algorithm the formula
q which defines the circle.

62. The Amazing History Of Pi
One problem with using this formula to calculate the value of pi is that you would have to add 5 million terms to work out a value of /4 that extends to 6 or 7 decimal places!
http://www.ualr.edu/lasmoller/pi.html
Did you know . . .? has a long and interesting history! Ancient history More pi history A novel way to compute pi- The symbol for pi ... For more information That the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle is constant (namely, pi) has been recognized for as long as we have written records. A ratio of 3:1 appears in the following biblical verse: And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it about. (I Kings 7, 23; II Chronicles 4, 2.) The ancient Babylonians generally calculated the area of a circle by taking 3 times the square of its radius ( =3), but one Old Babylonian tablet (from ca. 1900-1680 BCE) indicates a value of 3.125 for pi. Ancient Egyptians calculated the area of a circle by the following formula (where d is the diameter of the circle): This yields an approximate value of 3.1605 for pi. Beginning with a hexagon, he worked all the way up to a ploygon with 96 sides! Archimedes's method for approximating the value of pi.

    Value of Pi
    By Hardeep Pi
    Value to 100 places
I have calculated this using the Unix command bc . The command for this is based on an identity (that I think is credited to Ramanujan) and is:
    24*a(1/8)+8*a(1/57)+4*a(1/239)
where a stands for the arctangent function. The formula is:
    pi = 24*arctan(1/8)+8*arctan(1/57)+4*arctan(1/239)
To experimentally calculate Pi experimentally, there are two ways: One using a random number generator and the other by physically measuring the circumference of a given circle. Pi=4*c/t The other method is to take a circular bottle (measure the radius r) or tin and tie a thread around its circumference. Measure the circumference(c). Now Pi is c/2r. The following two sentences contain the value of Pi: the number of letters in each word indicates the corresponding number in the value of Pi. This makes the value of Pi easy to remember. Lastly, how useful are the digits of Pi as a source of random numbers Not bad Always wanting to do my own thing, I downloaded the value of Pi to one million places from a website, split it into (x,y,z) coordinates, each having 5 digit precision. Here is the graph that got generated:

Enter your "birthday" (e.g., 22069) This document will tell you where in PI your birthday first occurs.. E.G., If you were born Feb 20th 1969 search for: 22069 Note: No spaces... (you can also search for 2201969, but, that is less likely...) For those that dont remember, PI is the big(*) number that begins with three. Thanks to Arthur Bebak (arthur@msm.com) for the idea... * It has been brought to my attention that PI is not really all that "big", per se 4 being given as an example of a number bigger than PI. I could argue that PI is bigger than an infinite number of numbers (-5 for example) but, in truth, that is kinda wimpy and misleading. It turns out that when I was thinking "big" I was thinking of all the space that was used when writing PI down. The stack of papers required to write down PI is much bigger than the stack to write down 1 million. All that said doesn't take away the fact that there was actual confusion regarding the statement of PI being a big number therefore, you should ignore that I called PI the big number that begins with three and instead consider PI to be the really long number that begins with three.

introduced without fanfare by Leonard Lee Lawson (R, Crossville), and rapidly gained support after a letter-writing campaign by members of the Solomon Society, a traditional values group. Governor Guy Hunt says he will sign it into law on Wednesday.
The law took the state's engineering community by surprise. "It would have been nice if they had consulted with someone who actually uses pi," said Marshall Bergman, a manager at the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization. According to Bergman, pi is a Greek letter that signifies the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It is often used by engineers to calculate missile trajectories.
Prof. Kim Johanson, a mathematician from University of Alabama, said that pi is a universal constant, and cannot arbitrarily be changed by lawmakers. Johanson explained that pi is an irrational number, which means that it has an infinite number of digits after the decimal point and can never be known exactly. Nevertheless, she said, pi is precisly defined by mathematics to be "3.14159, plus as many more digits as you have time to calculate".
"I think that it is the mathematicians that are being irrational, and it is time for them to admit it," said Lawson. "The Bible very clearly says in

What is Pi?
Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. This magical number appears almost everywhere in every type of math. Pi cannot be written as the ratio of two numbers and is therefore an irrational number. Pi is also a transcendental number, which means that it is not the root of any polynomial equation with rational coefficients. Many people make a hobby of trying to memorize as much of Pi as they can. The current record is held by Akira Haraguchi, who has memorized Pi to over 83 thousand digits.

Pi in the Bible?
Steven Dutch, Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay
First-time Visitors: Please visit . Use "Back" to return here. One of the most famous mathematical statements in the Bible is in I Kings 7:23-26, describing a large cauldron, or "molten sea" in the Temple of Solomon: He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it. Below the rim, gourds encircled it - ten to a cubit. The gourds were cast in two rows in one piece with the Sea. The Sea stood on twelve bulls, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south and three facing east. The Sea rested on top of them, and their hindquarters were toward the center. It was a handbreadth in thickness, and its rim was like the rim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It held two thousand baths. (NIV) Now the Hebrews were not an especially technological society; when Solomon built his Temple he had to hire Phoenecian artisans for the really technical work. So the author of this passage may not have known the exact value of pi, or thought his readers might not be aware that specifying the diameter of a circle automatically specifies its circumference. In any case, the essential point was the impressive size of the cauldron, and its dimensions were only approximate, because the ratio of the circumference to the diameter is stated to be exactly three rather than the real value of pi which is 3.14159....
