  • Born: 27 August 1910 Birthplace: Skopje, Macedonia Died: 5 September 1997 Best Known As: Humanitarian nun of Calcutta, called "The Saint of the Gutters"
Name at birth: Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu Mother Teresa grew famous for humbly ministering to lepers, the homeless and the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta. In 1928 Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu joined the Sisters of Our Lady of Lareto, a Catholic order that did charity work in India. She took the name Sister Teresa and for 17 years taught school in the country. In 1950 she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a new order devoted to helping the sick and poor; the order grew to include branches in more than 100 cities around the world, and Mother Teresa became a worldwide symbol of charity, meeting with Princess Diana and many other public figures. In 1979 Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, and in 1985 she was awarded the Medal of Freedom from the United States.

"Whatsoever You Do..."
Speech of Mother Teresa of Calcutta to the National Prayer Breakfast, Washington, DC, February 3, 1994
(Click here for Spanish version.) Listen to the audio of this talk in MP3 format or download it. On the last day, Jesus will say to those on His right hand, "Come, enter the Kingdom. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was sick and you visited me." Then Jesus will turn to those on His left hand and say, "Depart from me because I was hungry and you did not feed me, I was thirsty and you did not give me drink, I was sick and you did not visit me." These will ask Him, "When did we see You hungry, or thirsty or sick and did not come to Your help?" And Jesus will answer them, "Whatever you neglected to do unto one of the least of these, you neglected to do unto me!" As we have gathered here to pray together, I think it will be beautiful if we begin with a prayer that expressed very well what Jesus wants us to do for the least. St. Francis of Assisi understood very well these words of Jesus and His life is very well expressed by a prayer. And this prayer, which we say every day after Holy Communion, always surprises me very much, because it is very fitting for each one of us. And I always wonder whether 800 years ago when St. Francis lived, they had the same difficulties that we have today. I think that some of you already have this prayer of peace - so we will pray it together.

Mother Teresa became known as the Saint of the Gutters. Mother Teresa's father was murdered when she was only seven years old.
Mother Teresa won seven awards and prizes! All of the money she got went to her centers. "It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving." Mother Teresa Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Yugoslavia (which is now Macedonia) in 1910 and died on September 5, 1997. Her parents were Nikola and Dronda Bojaxhiu. They named her Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, but she changed her name to Teresa on May 24, 1931. Her father was murdered when she was seven. Mother Teresa taught geography at St. Mary's School in Calcutta, India from 1929 to 1948. When she was riding a train to Darjeeling though, she heard God call. Soon she wanted to help the sick, the poor, and the dying. She took her final vows and became a Roman Catholic nun in 1937. She started to work in the Missionaries of Charity. Her first day on the job, Mother Teresa picked up a dying woman who was half-eaten by ants. Mother Teresa took the woman to Dhardnshala. She tried to clean the woman, but her skin came off and the woman died. In 1952 Mother Teresa started the Kalighat Home for the Dying. She and other nuns searched for people who were sick or dying on the streets in Calcutta, India. They helped and cared for them at the home. Once Mother Teresa said, "I see God in every human being." She became known as "The Saint Of the Gutters." Also, in the later 1950's, she began a leper colony called the "Town of Peace."

    "Heaven has gained another Star!"
Beloved Mother Teresa left her physical body on September 5, 1997. Beloved Mary, the Mother of Jesus , announced on September 7, 1997 that this precious Daughter of God has Ascended and become One with Her Beloved Mighty I AM Presence . Mother Mary said: " . . . I would likewise speak of another sadness, but of the greatest Joy. For in the loss of the beloved Mother Teresa, Heaven has gained another Star. In this day, beloved Teresa has gained Her Ascension in the Light, and will walk in the Octaves of Light to Radiate Her Greater Help and Guidance for those who would follow in a selfless Path of Service and Surrender. Beloved Teresa, with the Guidance of the Ascended Masters in Council, chose this very time and hour for Her Transition in the Light in the wake of the passing of a Princess . For it was Her desire that She not be a great focus of attention. She wished only for the Good which She had accomplished to continue on. For those Activities of Light that she had supported, had put Her Whole Momentum behind, to keep up the work, to not be swayed at Her passing, but to keep putting one foot in front of the other, in selfless Service and true Charity of the Heart.

    Welcome to:
While growing up in the southern province of Calabria, Italy, Teresa Polimeno, learned and developed her cooking skills from her italian mother. Homemade italian food and traditional italian cooking came in handy with this large family of nine children. After arriving in New York City in 1959 and then traveling to Houston, Texas to meet her husband, Teresa later began cooking the traditional Italian meals with her new family. Our original family recipes were typical meals which included a hearty plate of pasta with tomato sauce and a delicious green salad sprinkled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and spices. Appetizers were always served in an Italian home meal and the southern part of Italy had its' regional specialities. Mediterranean cuisine consisted of bruschetta, pork loins - bracioli , seafood, culinary cheese recipes, olivata spread, veal saltimbocca alla romana , plenty of marinated vegetables, recipe choices for chicken dishes, lasagne, gourmet italian tomato sauces and as always a delicious green salad with fresh basil, olive oil and tomatoes. Oh, and don't forget, a nice loaf of Italian bread especially made for dipping sauces. When you are ready for your shopping list, remember that typical basic italian food ingredients necessary for authentic italian cooking are: olive oil, tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil, oregano and mushrooms. Here at Mother Teresa's Cusine, we would like to help you with your homemade italian cooking. Try one of our 100% natural, no preservatives products.

    Mother Teresa
Everybody remembers Mother Teresa as a living saint. Mother T was a Catholic nun who helped the destitute and homeless of Calcutta , and who became an international emissary of peace and charity after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. But nobody seems to remember the crazy things M.T. said about abortion, contraception, and divorce. Or her endless self-aggrandizing through exaggeration and lies. Or the various brutal dictators and other sleazeballs she hung out with. Or especially what happened to all those financial donations (hundreds of millions of dollars) which never seemed to get spent on anything. At least they weren't spent on food, medicine, or housing for the poor. Mother Teresa was born in Macedonia in 1910. Her given name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. As a girl she decided to become a missionary, and at age 18 left home to join a convent in Calcutta. She taught at St. Mary's High School until 1948, when she received permission to leave her order and embark on her life's mission of helping the poor. In 1950, she founded The Missionaries of Charity, a religious order dedicated to caring for the indigent residents of Calcutta. In time, the little charity blossomed into a reasonably well-funded endeavor. So far, so good. Then some guy from the BBC shows up in 1969 and points a movie camera at Mother T. The result is the documentary
