Classification of finite simple groups
The classification of the finite simple groups is a vast body of work in mathematics , mostly published between around 1955 and 1983, which classifies all of the finite simple groups . In all, the work comprises about 10,000 - 15,000 pages in 500 journal articles by some 100 authors. The classification shows every finite simple group to be one of the following types:
The Sporadic Groups
5 of the sporadic groups were discovered by Mathieu in the 1860's and the other 21 were found between 1965 and 1975. The full list is:

was born on July 11th, 1916, in Australia. After the Great October Revolution he went in 1923 with his parents to the Soviet Union.
In 1934 Alexander Prochorov entered the Physics Department of the Leningrad State University. He attended lectures of Prof. V.A. Fock (quantum mechanics, theory of relativity), Prof. S.E. Frish (general physics, spectroscopy), and Prof. E.K.Gross (molecular physics). After graduating in 1939 he became a postgraduate student of the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute in Moscow, in the laboratory of oscillations headed by Academician N.D. Papaleksi. There he started to study the problems of propagation of radio waves. In June 1941, he was mobilized in the Red Army. He took part in the Second World War and was wounded twice. After his second injury in 1944, he was demobilized and went back to the laboratory of oscillations of the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute. There he began to investigate nonlinear oscillations under the guidance of Prof. S.M. Rytov.
In 1946 he defended his thesis on the theme Theory of Stabilization of Frequency of a Tube Oscillator in the Theory of a Small Parameter..

During World War II he served in the Russian army. Subsequently, working at the Physics Institute of the Soviet Academy of Sciences with Nikolai Basov , Prokhorov performed fundamental work in microwave spectroscopy , which led to the development of the maser in 1955, and later the laser. Basov and Prokhorov, together with the American physicist Charles Townes , received the 1964 Nobel Prize for physics for their development of the maser principle, and were pioneers of the new science of quantum radio physics (now referred to by the broader term, quantum electronics). Prokhorov, Aleksandr Mikhailovich
Prokhorov, Aleksandr Mikhailovich u u u u r u f) [ key , Russian physicist, b. Atherton, Queensland, Australia. In 1923 he was taken to the Soviet Union by his parents, who had emigrated to Australia to escape the czarist regime. In 1947 he began his research into the coherent radiation of electrons, followed by pioneering work in the field of radio-frequency spectroscopy. With N. G. Basov he created an oscillator based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic waves by the excited molecules of a molecular beam. In the process of developing an ammonia-beam molecular oscillator, Prokhorov formulated the main principles of, and laid the physical foundation for, quantum electronics. For this work, which led to the construction of oscillators and amplifiers based on the maser laser principle, Prokhorov shared the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics with Basov and C. H.
