Petroleum engineering
Petroleum engineering is involved in the exploration and production activities of petroleum at the upstream end of the energy sector. The diverse topics covered by petroleum engineering are closely related to the earth sciences. Petroleum engineering topics include geology geochemistry geophysics oil drilling[?] , well logging, well completion, oil and gas production, reservoir development, and pipelining. The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the largest professional society[?] for petroleum engineers and is a good source of information. Petroleum engineering education is available at dozens of universities in the United States ; primarily in oil producing states. A growing number of international programs offer petroleum engineering. Petroleum engineers have historically been one of the highest paid engineering disciplines; this is offset by a tendency for mass layoffs when oil prices decline. Petroleum engineering offers a challenging blend of geology, operations, advanced mathematics and the opportunity to risk massive amounts of money. The rewards for successful engineers range from high paying jobs to the opportunities to start oil companies.

LOGIN: ELECTRON SPECTROSCOPY SYSTEM WITH A MULTIPLE ELECTRODE ELECTRON LENS United States Patent 3617741 A source of X-radiation and a target under study are mounted on the Rowland circle of a crystal monochromator employed to focus a characteristic line of the X-radiation on the target. An electron lens with four electrodes for providing three independently variable electrical parameters is mounted in the photoelectron path between the target and an electron spectrometer adjusted to focus photoelectrons within a fixed energy range on a detector. The electrical parameters of this electron lens are adjusted to provide a target image of constant size and position at the entrance of the electron spectrometer while accelerating or decelerating photoelectrons from the target into the energy range for which the electron spectrometer is adjusted. Nobel Prize Facts
On 27 November 1895, Alfred Nobel signed his last will and testament, giving the largest share of his fortune to a series of prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace - the Nobel Prizes. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden's central bank) established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Learn more about the Laureates here.
    543 Nobel Prizes!
Between 1901 and 2010, the Nobel Prizes and the Prize in Economic Sciences were awarded 543 times. There have been a few years in which the Nobel Prize was not awarded, particularly during World War I and II. In the statutes of the Nobel Foundation it says: "If none of the works under consideration is found to be of the importance indicated in the first paragraph, the prize money shall be reserved until the following year. If, even then, the prize cannot be awarded, the amount shall be added to the Foundation's restricted funds." Awarded to one

Total number: Why is that? In the statutes of the Nobel Foundation it says: "A prize amount may be equally divided between two works, each of which is considered to merit a prize. If a work that is being rewarded has been produced by two or three persons, the prize shall be awarded to them jointly. In no case may a prize amount be divided between more than three persons."

Jesuit, born 1. May 1592 in Cologne, Germany visited China and worked for various Chinese Emperors as astronomer. He transferred some of the mathematics and astronomy knowledge of the West to China. He died 15. August 1666 in Peking. From November 1664 until 18 May 1665 he was in jail because of his religion and he survived because earthquakes and other catastrophical events occurred in China this year. He was released and in the same year rehabilitated by the new Emperor Kang-Hsi.
