A Citation for Professor Daniel C. Tsui
Conferment of the Degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa A Citation for PROFESSOR DANIEL C. TSUI It is no exaggeration to say that Prof. Daniel Tsui is a name well-known to all in Hong Kong. In 1998, Prof. Tsui was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics along with Prof. Horst L. Stormer and Prof. Robert B. Laughlin. He is the sixth Chinese scientist to ever receive this highest honour in ...

quotes by physicist or/and on physics-related subjects
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better" Albert Einstein Labels: Einstein Nature
"Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." Albert Einstein Labels: Einstein Nature
One of the major ingredients for professional success in science is luck. Without this, forget it.
Leon Lederman Labels: Lederman Science
Science should have no less lofty a goal. My ambition is to live to see all of physics reduced to a formula so elegant and simple that it will fit easily on the front of a T-shirt.
Leon Lederman Labels: Lederman Motive
"If you want to succeed in the world, you don't have to be much cleverer than other people. You just have to be one day earlier."
Leo Szilard
"I like to say, when asked why I pursue science, that it is to satisfy my curiosity, that I am by nature a searcher trying to understand. If you haven't found something strange during the day, it hasn't been much of a day."
John A Wheeler "In the matter of physics, the first lessons should contain nothing but what is experimental and interesting to see. A pretty experiment is in itself often more valuable than twenty formulae extracted from our minds."

Lectute in honor of Prof.Daniel.C. Tsui

Location: Home News Lectute in honor of Prof.Daniel.C. Tsui Lectute in honor of Prof.Daniel.C. Tsui Daniel C. Tsui’s Lecture was founded in December 2003. Each year, Prof. Daniel C. Tsui, Nobel Laureate from Pricenton University, will invite a Nobel laureate or a world-class physicist to give a special talk in our Institute. The goal of the Lecture is to review major advances and discoveries in the speaker’s research field and discuss future development. The Lecture is of colloquium style and it is 60 minutes talk and followed by discussions. Besides the Lecture, we also arrange some discussions and possibly a condensed matter physics seminar for the speakers to interact with the local scientists. The 6th Lecture : Discovering new physics in low dimensional electron systems:The role of high mobility Molecular Beam Epitaxy The promising possibilities for new discoveries in the field of quantum Hall physics during the past 30 years have led to a sustained world-wide effort to improve the materials and fabrication quality of the 2-dimensional (2D) electron systems that display these effects. The integer Quantum Hall Effect was discovered in 1980 in Silicon MOSFETs. Two years later the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect was discovered in GaAs-AlGaAs hetero-structures. Now, recent experiments in GaAs-AlGaAs suggest the possible existence of a third Quantum Hall variety, the Quantum Hall Effect of Quasiparticles obeying Non-abelian Statistics. If these new results ar...
