Vigneaud, Vincent du Vincent du Vigneaud was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 18th May, 1901, the son of the late inventor and machine designer Alfred J. du Vigneaud and his wife, Mary Theresa. He studied under Professor C.S. Marvel at Illinois University and took his B.Sc. degree in 1923 and M.Sc. in 1924.
During the year 1924-1925 he was assistant biochemist to Dr. W.G. Farr at the Philadelphia General Hospital and served on the Staff of the Graduate School of Medicine of Pennsylvania University. In 1927 he worked with Professor J.R. Murlin and submitted a thesis to the School of Medicine of Rochester University which earned him the Ph.D. As a Fellow of the National Research Council he worked with Professor J.J. Abel at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, with Professor George Barger at Edinburgh University Medical School and with Professor Charles R. Harington at London University College Hospital.
On his return to America, du Vigneaud joined the Physiological Chemical Staff at Illinois University under Professor W.C. Rose and in 1932 he became Head of the Biochemistry Department at the George Washington University School of Medicine. The Cornell University Medical College offered him a Professorship as Head of the Biochemistry Department in 1938.

Vincent du Vigneaud was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 18th May, 1901, the son of the late inventor and machine designer Alfred J. du Vigneaud and his wife, Mary Theresa. He studied under Professor C.S. Marvel at The University of Illinois and took his B.Sc. degree in 1923 and M.Sc. in 1924.

Vigneaud, Vincent du
Membre du Conseil National de la Recherche, Vincent du Vigneaud effectue ensuite plusieurs stages dans divers instituts américains, allemands, écossais et anglais. De retour aux Etats-Unis, il occupe la chaire de biochimie ŕ l'Ecole de Médecine de l'Université George Washington, puis ŕ partir de 1938 celle du College Médical de l'Université Comell.
Aprčs ses travaux sur l'insuline, il poursuit ses recherches sur deux hormones de l'hypophyse, l'ocytocine et la vasopressine. Puis il s'intéresse au métabolisme des peptides, ŕ la transméthylation, au métabolisme des composés mono-carboniques, ŕ la transsulfuration, et ŕ des composés comme la pénicilline, la biotine, etc. La plupart de ces travaux sont exposés dans le livre qu'il publie en 1952, A Trail of Research in Sulfur Chemistry and Metabolism and Related Fields, Comell University Press, Ithaca, 1952. Cet ouvrage l'impose dans les milieux scientifiques, et trois ans plus tard il recevra le prix Nobel. A la fin de sa carričre, i! sera directeur de l'Institut de la Santé Publique de la ville de New York, et l'un des dirigeants de l'Institut Rockefeller pour la Recherche Médicale.
