Welcome to Objectivism.net I swear, by my life and love of it, that I will never live for the
sake of another man nor ask another man to live for mine.
Galt's oath, from Atlas Shrugged The resignation of Dr. John McCaskey from the board of ARI and the reasons behind it In September of 2010, Dr. John McCaskey, a highly successful businessman turned professional intellectual, with years of dedication to the spread of Objectivism, was essentially forced from the board of ARI by Leonard Peikoff. The title above links to an insightful article by Rob Tracinski of TIA regarding this matter and the historical context behind it. While I disagree with a number of Rob's conclusions (for example, while ARI should atone for not defending Dr. McCaskey against an injust attack, it has done and continues to do valuable work in the spread of Objectivism), the article nonetheless presents important facts that needed to be explicitly identified. The Financial Crisis: Causes and Possible Cures Alan Greenspan vs. Ayn Rand and Freedom Contrary to the assertions of both Left and Right that Alan Greenspan was an Objectivist, this article lays that particular distortion to rest The Objectivism Research CD-ROM has been discontinued - for more details on the reasons, please see the link above regarding the resignation of Dr. John McCaskey.

Mr.Eyore's Full Review: Rand, Ayn Expressing an opinion on Ayn Rand is like expressing an opinion on the Bible or the Backstreet Boys. People who believe have strong, even virulent, views. And they're not takin' any of your cr*p. An attack on the author or the philosophy is an attack on them. People take these things to heart. But at least if you take an anti-Bible view, there are others out there to stand by your side. People who disagree with Ayn Rand simply don't give a damn. So I'll stand alone on this one, the target of those slings and arrows from you Randies, you YAFers, you Goldwater Republicans.
The Story
Atlas Shrugged is for Randies what the Republic On the Social Contract , the Politics , the Treatise on Human Nature and Leviathan are to real philosophers: An attempt to describe the nature of civil human relations, a stab at normative ethics and a dream of an ideal society.

SEMBLANZA

For reviews of this particular historical discussion, see essays by Scott Ryan and William Thomas (This article also cited by Don Parrish in his fascinating survey of " Ayn Rand Sites in Saint Petersburg .") See also " In Search of the Rand Transcript " and " The Rand Transcript, Revisited ." THE RAND TRANSCRIPT By Chris Matthew Sciabarra The official transcript copy is signed by the Director of the Central State Archive of St. Petersburg, T. Z. Zernova (30 October 1998). The transcript reports that Alissa Zinovievna Rosenbaum, born in 1905, entered the university on 2 October 1921 and graduated from the Social Pedagogical Division of the Faculty (or College) of the Social Sciences of Leningrad State University. This three-year course of the obshchestvenno - pedagogicheskoe otdelenie (Department of Social Pedagogy) was part of the new social science curriculum at the university, which had united the existing schools of history, philology, and law. The integration of the historical and philosophical disciplines sought to prepare students for careers as social science educators.

    Description
Available for the first time in trade paperbackthis provocative book is "an anthem sung in praise of man's ego"from the legendary author Ayn Rand Anthem has long been hailed as one of Ayn Rand's classic novels, and a clear predecessor to her later masterpieces, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged . In Anthem , Rand examines a frightening future in which individuals have no name, no independence, and no values. Equality 7-2521 lives in the dark ages of the future where all decisions are made by committee, all people live in collectives, and all traces of individualism have been wiped out. Despite such a restrictive environment, the spark of individual thought and freedom still burns in hima passion which he has been taught to call sinful. In a purely egalitarian world, Equality 7-2521 dares to stand apart from the herdto think and choose for himself, to discover electricity, and to love the woman of his choice. Now he has been marked for death for committing the ultimate sin. In a world where the great "we" reign supreme, he has rediscovered the lost and holy word"I."
