Russell, Bertrand
Bertrand Russell - Good Quote
Wisdom Quotes What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way.

British philosopher, mathematician, and logician who rose to prominence with his first major work, The Principles of Mathematics (1902), in which he attempted to remove mathematics from the realm of abstract philosophical notions and to give it a precise scientific framework. Russell then collaborated for eight years with Alfred North Whitehead to produce the monumental work Principia Mathematica logic , such as class and membership in a class. It became a masterpiece of rational thought.
Russell and Whitehead proved that numbers can be defined as classes of a certain type, and in the process they developed logic concepts and a logic notation that established symbolic logic as an important specialization within the field of philosophy. In his next major work, The Problems of Philosophy (1912), Russell borrowed from the fields of sociology, psychology, physics, and mathematics to refute the tenets of idealism, the dominant philosophical school of the period, which held that all objects and experiences are the product of the intellect. Russell, a realist, believed that objects perceived by the senses have an inherent reality independent of the mind.
Quote by Bertrand Russell "Science is what you know, philosophy is what you don't know."

Along with G.E. Moore , Russell is generally recognized as one of the founders of modern analytic philosophy. Along with , he is regularly credited with being one of the most important logicians of the twentieth century. Over the course of his long career, Russell made significant contributions, not just to logic and philosophy, but to a broad range of subjects including education, history, political theory and religious studies. In addition, many of his writings on a variety of topics in both the sciences and the humanities have influenced generations of general readers.

Con igual pasión he buscado conocimiento.

    Biography
British-Welsh writer, mathematician, logician, philosopher, social critic, one of the founders of analytic philosophy and considered one of the twentieth century's most important liberal thinkers. With Alfred Whitehead, he wrote "The Principia Mathematica," 1910-1913, a treatise on mathematical logic. He produced more than 3,000 publications and won the Nobel Prize as well as Britain's most prestigious honor, the Order of Merit. Russell was the author of more than 40 books on philosophy, education, politics and sex, outspoken and controversial for his day. Bertrand Arthur William Russell was born the third Earl Russell, grandson of the Prime Minister of England, Lord John Russell. Russell's father's family traced their lineage back to the Norman Conquest. His sister and both parents, however, were dead by the time he was four: both his mother and sister died in 1874, and his father in 1876. His grandfather, Lord Russell, and grandmother overturned his father's will to win custody of Russell and his brother, Frank. His grandfather died in 1878, and his grandmother, a sternly religious woman, supervised his upbringing. It was, by his own autobiography, an unhappy childhood.
