Studies included under the branches of biophysics span all levels of biological organization , from the molecular scale to whole organisms and ecosystems. Biophysical research shares significant overlap with biochemistry nanotechnology bioengineering agrophysics and systems biology Molecular biophysics typically addresses biological questions that are similar to those in biochemistry and molecular biology , but the questions are approached quantitatively. Scientists in this field conduct research concerned with understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell, including the interactions between DNA, RNA and protein biosynthesis, as well as how these interactions are regulated. A great variety of techniques are used to answer these questions. Fluorescent imaging techniques, as well as electron microscopy x-ray crystallography NMR spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are often used to visualize structures of biological significance.

    You may ask yourself what exactly is biophysics? Biophysics is a combination of physical science and cell and molecular biology. It is really an interdisciplinary field that includes concepts from biology, genetics, physiology, medicine, chemistry engineering, mathematics and physics.
    The true definition of biophysics can be hard to pin down, as the field is made up of scientists who come from different backgrounds, different focuses, and different views of what biophysics actually is. The main emphasis of biophysics is to gain an understanding of how biological systems work.
    The understanding of how the biological systems work is actually gained by applying principles of both physics and chemistry and adding mathematical analysis along with computer modeling. It is quite complex.
    Biophysics is actually a molecular science. The properties of molecules including smaller molecules of fatty acids and sugars to larger molecules like proteins, starches and even DNA.
    The molecules mentioned above are actually the building blocks. When combined they make up cells, tissues and even whole organisms. They form complex structures that have dimension of 10 to 100 to 1000 to 10,000 nm and even larger.

    In 1945, Dr. Alan C Burton was recruited to the University of Western Ontario where he founded and led the first Department of Biophysics in a Canadian medical school from 1948-1970. He repeatedly turned down numerous positions in the United States, and his department is now one of Canada's largest biophysics departments, known for its innovative graduate program. In his later years, Dr. Burton turned his energies towards the problem of cancer, including protection against cancer by altitude, once again showing how simple physics can help to more clearly understand medical problems.
    In April 2010, Dr. Burton was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame for his enormous contributions to science and medicine.

    Information biophysics epidermis. FISH SCALE. Epidermis is a system that lays the border between the body of the biological object and the environment. Traditionally it's considered as a structure devoid of any physical or physiological features, important for the life of an organism. The results of our numerous researches in this field let us think that epidermis plays an essential role in life sustaining for it provides energy and information exchange with the environment on the base of wave processes [1-4]. Thus, by using tortoise-shell scutes and then fish scales, we have designed the biosensors allowing remote registration of the pathology of different tissues, such as inflammation, scarring, traumas, ulceration and malignization [2]. Later on we have conducted a series of successful experiments with fish scales on indication of different environmental signals detections including earthquakes, geomagnetic storms and other external impacts [3]. By using capacitive sensors with fish scales as insulators, we have managed to selectively and remotely register the presence of the hydrocarbon compound - the black mineral oil [4].
