Research Summary
I have worked in different research groups in 2006 ( Computational Physics Experimental Molecular Electronics ). In 2007 I have written my M.Sc. thesis in the group of Daniel Loss on the study of multi-particle qubits. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D in theoretical condensed matter physics . My current research interests are to employ Weak Values in Electronic interferometers in the Quantum Hall Effect regime. Additionally, I co-organize the

Introduction to the Condensed Matter Group The condensed matter physics group studies the structural, electrical and magnetic properties of solids. We make artificial materials combining very thin layers of metals, alloys and oxides. We work with nanostructured and low dimensionality materials, such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. We investigate and exploit new and interesting effects that arise from the interactions and transport of electrons in these systems. Our research portfolio can be split into a number of areas:
  • Magnetism, magnetoresistance and exchange bias in metallic elements, alloys, glasses and heterostructures. Low dimensional carbon based materials for spintronics such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. Superconducting Spintronics - superconductor-ferromagnetic proximity effects and electron transport in superconductor-ferromagnetic heterostructures. Organic Spintronic materials Spintronics for quantum information processing
We use a wide range of techniques and facilties in our research:
  • Thin film growth by MBE, sputtering and evaporation

Condensed matter physical science liquid s, which arise from a electric force between atom s. Extra exotic condensed phases include a superfluid and the Bose-Einstein condensate found in certain atomlike systems at super on line temperature Condensed matter physical science is by far a big field of contemporary natural philosophy. By a single estimate, of these third of 100% Western physicist s identify themselves as condensed matter physicists. Historically, condensed matter natural philosophy grew away from solid-state physics, which is now considered one of its independent subfields. A term "condensed matter physics" was apparently coined by Philip Anderson when he renamed his research class action - previously "solid-state theory" - inside 1967. Within 1978, a Section of Firm State Physics at the American Physical Society was renamed as a Section of Condensed Matter Physics. Condensed matter natural philosophy is too closely related the field of materials science. In that context, condensed matter physicists search "Nanotechnology", i.e. a ability to mass develop atomic-shell machines, which was foremost publicly envisioned by Richard Feynman. Preprints are available for the following years:
How to use the ICMP Preprints Online
Both abstracts and full texts are available. Abstracts are shown to the reader once the abs link is chosen in the list of preprints for the selected year. Full texts in the LaTeX, PostScript and PDF formats are available for downloading once the src or ps or pdf link is chosen, respectively. Files are compressed with gzip utility ( .gz extension) and the reader should uncompress them with gzip -d filename.gz or gzip -da filename.gz command. Multipart files ( .tar.gz or .tgz extension) are first packed with tar utility, so the reader should unpack them after the uncompression with the tar -xvf filename.tar command.

Laura Adams with the scanning tunneling microscope she built for use in the Superconductor Research Group Photo by Jonathan Chapman Condensed matter physics, and the closely associated discipline of materials physics, are the largest subfields in physics. Condensed matter research at Minnesota spans a range that includes the strange properties of electricity at nanoscales, to activities that may truly be considered "high science," understanding phenomena such as "superfluids," He and He. Condensed matter and materials physics have been the sources of numerous technologies important to daily life. These include compound semiconductor electronics, magnetic and optical storage systems, liquid crystal displays, and semiconductor lasers. Among the many efforts at Minnesota aimed at future technology are the experiments in spintronics, which are attempting to solve problems associated with the coupling of a semiconductor and a ferromagnet. Several of the condensed matter faculty members participate in the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, a collaborative effort by the University that crosses departmental boundaries.

Semiconductor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search For information on devices using semiconductors and their history, see semiconductor device This article is about the material. For the artists, see Semiconductor (artists) A semiconductor is a material with electrical conductivity due to electron flow (as opposed to ionic conductivity ) intermediate in magnitude between that of a conductor and an insulator . This means a conductivity roughly in the range of 10 to 10 siemens per centimeter. Semiconductor materials are the foundation of modern electronics, including radio, computers, telephones, and many other devices. Such devices include transistors solar cells , many kinds of diodes including the light-emitting diode, the silicon controlled rectifier, and digital and analog integrated circuits. Similarly, semiconductor solar photovoltaic panels directly convert light energy into electrical energy. In a metallic conductor, current is carried by the flow of electrons . In semiconductors, current is often schematized as being carried either by the flow of electrons or by the flow of positively charged " holes " in the electron structure of the material. Actually, however, in both cases only electron movements are involved.
