Physicists on the Money
Physicists have been honored by having their picture on currency in many countries around the world. Some are shown in small images below. Click on the colored text to view or down load a larger copy of the image. Abu Nasr Al-Farabi (870-950) appears on the 1 Tenge note from Kazakhstan. A scholar in many areas, including philosophy, linguistics, logic, and music. He also wrote about the nature of science and argued for the existence of the vacuum (empty space). For a brief bio click here . (26 K) Kristian Birkeland (1867-1917) appears on the Norwegian 200 Kroner note. Birkeland was a pioneer in studying the magnetic field of the earth and the aurora borealis. He made the suggestion that the aurora were caused by charges emitted by the sun being guided into the earth's atmosphere by the earth's magnetic field. An apparatus of his simulating this effect is shown on the bill at the left. For a brief bio click here . For a great site on the aurora

If you are seeking a medical physicist to fill career, temporary, contract service or training positions click here The AAPM is a scientific and professional organization, founded in 1958, composed of more than 7000 scientists whose clinical practice is dedicated to ensuring accuracy, safety and quality in the use of radiation in medical procedures such as medical imaging and radiation therapy. We are generally known as medical physicists and are uniquely positioned across medical specialties due to our responsibility to connect the physician to the patient through the use of radiation producing technology in both diagnosing and treating people. The responsibility of the medical physicist is to assure that the radiation prescribed in imaging and radiation therapy is delivered accurately and safely. One of the primary goals of the AAPM is the identification and implementation of improvements in patient safety for the medical use of radiation in imaging and radiation therapy.

    Bienvenidos
Hispanic Americans in Physics: Past, Present, and Future
Hola. And welcome to our website. Though we have tried to anticipate your questions ... we are much more than these few pages can contain. Here you will find physicists, people passionate about the study of the universe, who are also familiar with the problems and challenges you may encounter as you begin to study physics or as you join the professional community of physicists. As few other groups are able, we recognize how poorly the words Hispanic-American, Latina, Chicano, or any other such term can capture the diversity, richness, complexity, joy and sorrows of our gente (people). And as no one else can, we can speak to our experiences to why we study physics, some of the problems we encountered as we chose our future, and our difficulties and joys in being a physicist. So ... please visit our pages ... learn what you can ... then feel free to reach out to one of us.

Einstein the greatest
Einstein changed physics for ever
Albert Einstein has been voted the greatest physicist of all time in an end of the millennium poll, pushing Sir Isaac Newton into second place.
The survey was conducted among 100 of today's leading physicists.
All-time top ten 1. Albert Einstein 2. Isaac Newton 3. James Clerk Maxwell 4. Niels Bohr 5. Werner Heisenberg 6. Galileo Galilei 7. Richard Feynman 8= Paul Dirac 8= Erwin Schrödinger 10. Ernest Rutherford "Einstein's special and general theories of relativity completely overturned previous conceptions of a universal, immutable space and time, and replaced them with a startling new framework in which space and time are fluid and malleable," said physicist Brian Greene from Columbia University, US, who participated in the poll for Physics World magazine.
Peter Rodgers, Editor of Physics World, said: "Einstein and Newton were always going to be one and two but what was surprising about the top 10 was that there were seven out and out theorists." The top 10 includes three British scientists: Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Paul Dirac. New Zealander Ernest Rutherford, who did much of his work in the UK, also makes the list, at 10.
