26. Evolutionary Psychology
A comprehensive evolutionary psychology must be able to deal with our future psychological evolution as well as our past. This paper begins the extension of evolutionary psychology to our future evolution.
http://www4.tpg.com.au/users/jes999/evpsy.htm
Evolutionary Psychology This paper addresses a fundamental limitation in most attempts to apply the findings of evolutionary psychology to the human condition. Most attempts focus on how our biological past constrains and limits our behavioural options (including our cognitive abilities). They generally fail to look at whether these constraints can be overcome in our future evolution. To date, evolutionary psychology has not satisfactorily addressed a key question: are we beings forever constrained by our biological past, or can we acquire new psychological software that will enable us to become self-evolving organisms - beings that are able to adapt in whatever ways are necessary for future evolutionary success, largely unfettered by our biological and social past? This paper is directed squarely at answering this issue. The answer to this issue is highly relevant to the nature/nurture debate. This debate will eventually dissolve if humans are capable of acquiring psychological skills that enable them to modify and overcome both their genetic and cultural behavioural predispositions. For individuals who acquire these skills, neither nature nor nurture will control their behaviour and cognition.
In my view, a comprehensive approach to psychological evolution will not be restricted to examining only our biological past. It cannot ignore the fact that we are evolutionary work-in-progress. It must also look at our present and future psychological evolution. Only when it does so will evolutionary psychology fully qualify as scientific by being predictive in the widest sense.

Target identification and validation based on evolutionary analysis.
Evolutionary Genomics (EG) is a unique biotechnology company that is changing how relevant gene/target discovery and validation is performed during the post-genomics era.  The company’s proprietary Adapted Traits platform sifts through vast amounts of genomic data to identify only those genes that have a high likelihood of commercial value for downstream validation.
EG applies this platform to identify high-value targets for drug-discovery or genes for use in natural crop yield or pest/disease-resistance enhancement.

Science in Christian Perspective EVOLUTION DIALOGUE Evolutionary Psychology Challenges the Current Social Sciences J. Raymond Zimmer
3347 W. 66 th Place
Chicago, IL 60629 From: PSCF (September 1998): 176-184. Evolutionary psychology is a new multidisciplinary field which promises to irrevocably change the traditional social sciences. This article introduces evolutionary psychology, explains how it challenges current social science, then discusses the opportunities it presents for Christian apologetics. To show that evolutionary psychology theories may be complementary, rather than antagonistic, to Christian views, a hypothesis within the Darwinian paradigm is proposed to explain the evolution of human awareness of supernature. Human awareness of supernature may be founded on the logical relationship between evolutionarily recent psychological adaptations in response to novel hominid social arrangements and more ancient mammalian psychologies. The hypothesis, though based on naturalism, paradoxically eclipses atheistic natural philosophy. Awareness of something beyond nature may be integral to human survival. O nce again, there is much ado about Darwinism in the popular press

    Evolutionary Psychology
    First published Fri Feb 8, 2008 In what follows I briefly explain evolutionary psychology's relations to other work on the biology of human behavior and the cognitive sciences. Next I introduce the research tradition's key theoretical concepts. In the following section I take up discussions about evolutionary psychology in the philosophy of mind, specifically focusing on the debate about the massive modularity thesis. I go on to review some of the criticisms of evolutionary psychology presented by philosophers of biology and assess some responses to those criticisms. Finally, I introduce some of evolutionary psychology's contributions to moral psychology.
    1. Evolutionary Psychology: One research tradition among the various biological approaches to explaining human behavior
    Paul Griffiths argues that evolutionary psychology owes theoretical debt to both sociobiology and ethology (Griffiths 2006; Griffiths forthcoming). Evolutionary psychologists acknowledge their debt to sociobiology but point out that they add a dimension to sociobiology: psychological mechanisms. Human behaviors are not a direct product of natural selection but rather the product of psychological mechanisms that were selected for. The relation to ethology here is that in the nineteen fifties, ethologists proposed instincts or drives that underlie our behavior;

    Research for my PhD thesis: Functional Diversification among MADS-box genes and the Evolution of Conifer Seed Cone Development
    Supervisors: Peter Engstrm and Karolina Tandre For my PhD thesis I studied the evolution and development of the female reproductive organ in conifer seed cones using a comparative developmental-genetics approach. I further studied the functional evolution of MADS-box genes in conifers and flowering plants. MADS-box genes are present in all eukaryotes, but this gene family has expanded greatly during early seed plant evolution and are of particular importance for the reproductive development in seed plants. In these studies I used the conifer Norway spruce ( Picea abies ) and the angiosperm Thale cress ( Arabidopsis thaliana ) as my two main model organisms, but I also worked with

William A. Spriggs, Jan. 2010. The great debate going into the 2010 Fall General Elections is "out of control 'Government' spending." I've also begun to view editorials in the new media that America's militiry might might be the cause of "The Decline and Fall of the American Empire." I agree somewhat. But I am not advocating any reductions in military might, just a realignment of the resources. Evolution
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The Tree of Life showing evolution since the beginning of life. Evolution is a scientific theory used by biologists . It explains how animals and plants changed over a long time, and how they have come to be the way they are. The earth has been around for a very long time. By doing research on the layers of rock we can find out about its past. That kind of research is called historical geology . We know that living things have changed over time, because we can see their remains in the rocks. These remains are called " fossils ". So we know that the animals and plants of today are different from those of long ago. And the further we go back, the more different the fossils are. How has this come about? Evolution has taken place. That evolution has taken place is a fact , because it is overwhelmingly supported by many lines of evidence At the same time, evolutionary questions are still being actively researched by biologists. The theory of evolution is the basis of modern biology. Nothing in biology makes sense without it.

His book, Guns, Germs and Steel won a Pulitzer Prize and The Third Chimpanzee was a best-selling award winner. Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, Professor Diamond is a MacArthur Fellow who has published over 200 articles in Discover Natural History Nature and Geo magazines. H umans lived as hunter-gatherers for 5 million years, then we (unconsciously) developed agriculture about 13,000 years age. Were we better off? The farmers overwhelmed the hunter-gatherers. How come? The fundamentally egalitarian hunter-gatherers were replaced everywhere by hierarchical societies supported by religion and complex political organization. Was agriculture a bad deal for the vast scores of individuals who supported those few in charge? And why did Europeans overwhelm indigenous peoples all over the planet? Dr. Jared Diamond offers a series of stunning answers to these and a wealth of other questions about human societies in his Pulitzer Prize winning book
