Experimental neuropsychology is an approach which uses methods from experimental psychology to uncover the relationship between the nervous system and cognitive function. The majority of work involves studying healthy humans in a laboratory setting, although a minority of researchers may conduct animal experiments. Human work in this area often takes advantage of specific features of our nervous system (for example that visual information presented to a specific

Committed to Excellence in Neuropsychology
The American Board of Professional Neuropsychology (ABN) recognizes and encourages the pursuit of excellence in the practice of clinical neuropsychology. ABN's primary objective is the establishment of professional standards of expertise for the practice of clinical neuropsychology. Through its credentialing and examination processes and its continuing education requirement, the ABN offers to the medical community, the public, and to individuals who have a need for applied neuropsychological services, a process whereby well-qualified professional neuropsychologists can be identified. To achieve the standards set forth by the ABN for competent professional practice of neuropsychology, the following outcome objectives have been developed:

Opportunities are provided to receive training with other rehabilitation populations as well. Training opportunities are concentrated on inpatient and outpatient settings, with strongest concentration being on the inpatient brain injury and stroke programs. Diverse didactic experiences will also be offered. NRH has an active and growing research environment, and fellows are encouraged to become involved in research during their tenure. Applicants must have a doctorate in psychology from an accredited program, and have completed an APA accredited clinical psychology internship. Applicants should also have strong training and clinical experience in neuropsychology during graduate school and internship. The training faculty consists of three neuropsychologists, as well as four health psychologists. There also are two current post-doctoral fellows in the program. Neuropsychologists around the world often find themselves working as isolated specialists in private practice or on multidisciplinary clinical teams. Applied Neuropsychology offers them a community forum in which to discuss the implications of the latest neuropsychological research and theory for day-to-day practice across the broad spectrum of problems presented by aged and younger adults, adolescents, and children. In contrast to other journals, Applied Neuropsychology is solely focused on clinical applications. It publishes full-length reports of research that illuminates these, commissioned reviews of current conclusions from the scientific literature concerning the nature, course, or treatment of neuropsychological dysfunctions, articles addressing current professional, educational, and ethical concerns, brief communications, commentaries, case studies, and reviews of books and tests. A Grand Rounds section highlights everyday clinical issues. It presents interesting cases in which neuropsychological services made key contributions, as well as unusual cases or rare disorders in which neuropsychological services contribute to patient care.
