The Gospel of John The Song of Mahamudra ... Transpersonal Psych Meditating with Grace Being in the human condition can be difficult. We constantly find ourselves being captured by thoughts, emotions and situations that go against our desire for happiness. Yet, the human condition is extremely precious because what is unconscious and unrecognized in animals can be made conscious and recognized while in the human condition.
Meditation can be used to make the unconscious conscious. There are many different forms of meditation; this writing tries to communicate meditating with Grace. Readers will have to look within themselves to interpret the meaning according to their experience. This is not a proprietary method of meditation belonging to any individual or group. Grace is a universal experience substratum to the human condition.
Most of us have had a subtle experience of Grace. It might manifest as an ability to go through a difficult situation realizing that there was something not seemingly of you that helped you overcome. This ability to endure might have been psychological, physical, or relational. This experience is easily pushed to the unconscious and forgotten.

A short definition from the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology suggests that transpersonal psychology "is concerned with the study of humanity’s highest potential, and with the recognition, understanding, and realization of unitive, spiritual, and transcendent states of consciousness" (Lajoie and Shapiro, 1992:91). Issues considered in transpersonal psychology include spiritual self-development peak experiences mystical experiences systemic trance and other occult experiences of living. Transpersonal psychology developed from earlier schools of psychology including psychoanalysis behaviorism , and humanistic psychology . Transpersonal psychology attempts to describe and integrate spiritual experience within modern psychological theory and to formulate new theory to encompass such experience. Types of spiritual experience examined vary greatly but include mysticism

Transpersonal Therapy: Recovering the Essential Self
What is Transpersonal Psychotherapy?
"Psychotherapy is the only form of therapy there is. Since only the mind can be sick, only the mind can be healed. Only the mind is in need of healing. This does not appear to be the case, for the manifestations of this world seem real indeed." -A Course In Miracles Transpersonal Therapy focuses on the Essential Self. The word "transpersonal" comes from the Latin "trans," meaning beyond and through, and "persona," meaning mask or personality. Transpersonal therapy is truly holistic, encompassing all levels of human experience, including the spiritual, seeking to reveal the person behind the personality. Transpersonal psychology draws it's methodology from the spiritual traditions of the world, including eastern philosophies such as Buddhism, the Yogic traditions of India, and Western Contemplative traditions, and integrates them with contemporary psychology. Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be a very effective treatment for depression and anxiety. It's premise is that our thoughts and deeply held assumption and beliefs, influence our emotions and perceptions. However, CBT does not address the deeper questions of consciousness and the Essential Self. Combined with transpersonal therapy principles, CBT takes on a different tone. Utilizing certain techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I emphasize the importance of Self-acceptance, and the recognition that one's outer appearances are but temporary shadows. When we mistake these shadows of the mind as our true self, we suffer greatly. We fall into guilt, shame, fear, and depression.

That is, stages of psychological growth, or stages of consciousness , that move beyond the rational and precede the mystical . The term is highly associated with the work of Abraham Maslow and his understanding of " peak experiences ", and was first adapted by the human potential movement in the 1960s. Among the psychological sciences that have studied transpersonal phenomena are Transpersonal psychology Humanistic psychology and Near-Death Studies . Among the forerunners to the development of transpersonal theory are the school of Psychosynthesis (founded by Roberto Assagioli ), and the Analytical school of C.G Jung In integral theory , transpersonal refers to stages of human development through which a person 's self-awareness extends beyond the personal . Contact Us What Is Transpersonal Hypnotherapy?     Transpersonal Hypnotherapy is an orientation toward clinical hypnotherapy that is shared by an increasing number of holistically oriented practitioners who are ready to take the concept of holism to the next logical step. Where holism takes body, mind, and spirit into consideration, transpersonalism goes beyond the individual to consider the deep connections between human beings and our capacity to transcend the limitations of a three-dimensional consciousness.     Transpersonal hypnotherapy is an orientation that can best be described by defining the word, transpersonal-the crossing of mind, body, and spirit or soul.
This orientation leads the practitioner into considering a broad scope of interventions that lead to mental, physical or spiritual changes and increased awareness. The transpersonal hypnotherapist allows for client and therapist to address any aspect of the relationship between the mind, body and spirit, and their effects on one another; yet, there is no religious orientation suggested, but instead an unfoldment that makes it possible for clients to explore their relationship to a universal creator and their own unique spiritual walk through human life.
One of the primary purposes of the Transpersonal Hypnotherapy Center includes educating the public on the higher levels of awareness that hypnosis can bridge one into, in addition to the sensational

Transpersonal psychology
Transpersonal psychology is a school of psychology that developed from the Humanistic Psychology movement in the mid 1960s, being founded by Abraham Maslow and Stan Grof. Whereas Humanistic Psychology was called the "Third Force" (after psychoanalysis and behavioural psychology), Transpersonal psychology or the transpersonal movement became the fourth force. It was part of the whole radical wave of consciousness revolution that occured in the 1960s through to early 70s. I remember when I started University at La Trobe in 1979, I was imemdiately drawn to Transpersobnal Psychology and the back issues of their journal in the university library. Important writers that I read at this time included Aurthur Deikman, James Welwood, Kenneth Ring, Ken Wilber, and others. The Wikipedia page mentions that past presidents of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology (ATP), founded in 1972, "include Alyce Green, James Fadiman, Frances Vaughan, Arthur Hastings, Daniel Goleman, Robert Frager, Ronald Jue, Jeanne Achterberg and Dwight Judy. In the 1980s and 90s the field developed through the works of such authors as Jean Houston, Stanislav Grof, Ken Wilber , Michael Washburn, Frances Vaughan, Roger Walsh, Stanley Krippner, Michael Murphy Charles Tart , David Lukoff, Vasily Nalimov and Stuart Sovatsky. " This gives a good list of names of movers and shakers in the Transpersonal Psychology field. Wilber himself jhas since dissociated hiomself from the movement and set up his own

Abstract The author introduces transpersonal psychology and its central themes (nonduality, intrinsic health, self-transcendence). Transpersonal psychology is presented as an inclusive approach which values both diversity and unity. The relationships between this field and mainstream psychology, religion, spiritual wisdom traditions, and counselling practice are explored. Finally, transpersonal psychology is shown to be relevant for dealing with tragedies such as a recent shooting in a Colorado high school.
We Keep Asking Ourselves, What is Transpersonal Psychology? I first heard of transpersonal psychology in 1972 when I was in graduate school on a National Science Foundation fellowship to study experimental psychology. While the term had been around since Abraham Maslow, Stan Grof, Victor Frankl, and others coined it in the late 1960s, it was new to me. I found myself drawn to its integration of spirituality and psychology, and I appreciated the opportunity to explore questions of higher states of consciousness and optimal mental health through a psychological and phenomenological, rather than a religious, framework. I felt this approach offered powerful ways of exploring and understanding these phenomena. I still do.
