Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
The SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a Digital Library portal for researchers in Astronomy and Physics, operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) under a NASA grant. The ADS maintains three bibliographic databases containing more than 8.6 million records: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Physics, and arXiv e-prints. The main body of data in the ADS consists of bibliographic records, which are searchable through highly customizable query forms , and full-text scans of much of the astronomical literature which can be browsed or searched via our full-text search interface. Integrated in its databases, the ADS provides access and pointers to a wealth of external resources, including electronic articles, data catalogs and archives. We currently have links to over 8.6 million records maintained by our collaborators.

About Astrophysical.org
Astrophysics on astrophysical.org
Astrophysics
is the branch of astronomy that deals with the physical properties of stars , galaxies, and other astronomical objects. Among such characteristics are: temperature, luminosity, color, density and chemical composition of stars.
Cosmology is theoretical astrophysics at its largest scale, involving the structure of the whole universe. Astrophysical research is important for physics at atomic and subatomic scales. Most of modern astronomical research involves a substantial amount of physics and can be considered astrophysics. However, astronomy is considered to be separated into 3 traditional branches: astrometry and celestial mechanics are the classical fields of astronomy; astrophysics is the modern field. The current high status of astrophysics is reflected in the naming of institutions involved in astronomical research: the oldest ones are "astronomy" departments or institutes, the newest ones include "astrophysics" in their names, often excluding the word "astronomy". Astrometry and celestial mechanics are so related that they may be considered a single branch: for this reason, the Scientia websites are only two

Undergraduate Program PROGRAM OVERVIEW Planets, stars, galaxies, and an ever-increasing variety of phenomena observed from ground- and space-based observatories are among the objects of study. Areas of special interest at UC Santa Cruz include cosmology, the formation and evolution of stars and galaxies, high-energy astrophysics, active galaxies, supernovae and nucleosynthesis, the motions of stars and galaxies, and all aspects of observational optical and infrared astronomy. Virtually every branch of modern physics must be brought to bear in interpreting new observations: optics, mechanics, relativity, atomic and nuclear physics, applied mathematics, chemistry, geology, and meteorology. The interdisciplinary nature of astronomy, including its historical and philosophical elements, makes its study valuable to those planning careers in a variety of related fields.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has an active research group in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Currently this group has four faculty members , working in different areas of theoretical astrophysics (Arnab Rai Choudhuri, Chanda J. Jog, Banibrata Mukhopadhyay and Tarun Deep Saini). All of these faculty members are also faculty members in the Department of Physics . We also coordinate the Joint Astronomy Programme The Joint Astronomy Programme was established in 1982 before there was any astrophysics group in IISc. The astrophysics group started here in 1986. At present, this group is in a growth mode and is looking for bright young astrophysicists interested in joining our faculty. See Faculty positions. We take students to do PhD degree under the supervision of the faculty members of our group. See Student opportunities Anyone interested in a postdoctoral position in our group can apply for the DST supported fellowship or Centenary Postdoctoral Fellowship of IISc.
