Biostatistics Internship Program
"As a biostatistician, it is exciting to be able to apply statistics to real-world medical research studies."
Claudia, MS Statistician The Biostatistics Internship program provides a learning experience during which interns participate in the statistical analysis of on-going research projects conducted at Mayo. This annual summer program begins in late May or early June depending on candidate availability and lasts a minimum of 10 weeks. During this program you will have an opportunity to enhance your computer and statistical skills while working under the direction of a lead statistician.

Most, but not all, have "Help:" at the beginning of their page names and are therefore in the "Help" namespace; an automatically-generated list of those can be found at Special:Allpages by running down the "Namespace" menu. Many wikis also make much use of a Help:Contents page, where headings and tables may be used to cover the main areas, in contrast to a category , which is fairly rigidly based on alphabetical order. If you find helpful pages that you think should be here, you may include them here just by typing [[category:help]] on them. You can also:

      Department of Biostatistics
The department conducts biostatistical research and development, participates in substantive medical research projects and offers biostatistical advice to PhD students and staff in all disciplines of the Faculty of Health Sciences, to those engaged in experimental and clinical medicine, public health and odontology. The biostatistical research focuses on methods of analysing survival data, longitudinal data, complex measurements in experimental medicine and epidemiology and interobserver variation. The applied statistical collaboration covers all areas of medical research and ranges from short consultations to collaborative projects lasting several years. The department teaches biostatistics within all of the programs of the Faculty: pregraduate teaching for students of medicine, dentistry, public health and human biology; teaching within the programmes of Master of Public Health and Master of International Health; and courses in the PhD programme of the Faculty, both for medical researchers and (courses as well as advising) for PhD students in biostatistics.

      Division of Quantitative Sciences
Donald A. Berry, Ph.D., Division Head
The Division of Quantitative Sciences provides an essential component of the scientific basis for research conducted at MD Anderson:
      • Developing designs for clinical trials, laboratory experiments and observational studies Statistical analysis of data arising from these experiments Analysis of microarray data Database development and management Writing user-friendly computer programs for clinical trial conduct Mathematical modeling of observational processes, outcome analyses of therapy, screening and prevention interventions and cost-effectiveness analyses
These activities often evolve from collaborations between division faculty and physicians and research scientists at MD Anderson and other institutions. The problems arising from these collaborations provide the motivation for much of the methodological research conducted in the division. Under the guidance of Donald A. Berry, Ph.D., the division head, the Division of Quantitative Sciences has rapidly grown to become a leader in the development and use of innovative statistical designs for clinical trials, innovative statistical methodology, health services research and bioinformatics.

    Department of Biostatistics
Biostatistics involves the theory and application of statistical science to analyze public health problems and to further biomedical research. Current departmental research on statistical and computing methods for observational studies and clinical trials includes survival analysis, missing-data problems, and causal inference. Other areas of investigation are environmental research (methods for longitudinal studies, analyses with incomplete data, and meta-analysis); statistical aspects of the study of AIDS and cancer; quantitative problems in health-risk analysis, technology assessment, and clinical decision making; statistical methodology in psychiatric research and in genetic studies; Bayesian statistics; statistical computing; statistical genetics and computational biology; and collaborative research activities with biomedical scientists in other Harvard-affiliated institutions.
