From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Computer science deals with the theoretical foundations of information and computation, and of practical techniques for their implementation and application. Computer science or computing science (sometimes abbreviated CS ) is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation , and of practical techniques for their implementation and application in computer systems. It is frequently described as the systematic study of algorithmic processes that create, describe, and transform information. Computer science has many sub-fields ; some, such as computer graphics , emphasize the computation of specific results, while others, such as computational complexity theory , study the properties of computational problems . Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describe computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems, and

Computer science
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Computer science is the science of how to treat information . There are many different areas in computer science. Some of the areas consider problems in a more abstract way. Some areas need special machines , called computers . A person who works with computers will often need math science , and logic in order to make and use computers.

    change Asking the right question
Computers can do some things easily (for example: simple math, or sorting out a list of names from A-to-Z). Computers cannot do some things, though. Computers cannot answer questions when there is not enough information, or when there is no real answer. Also, computers may take too much time to finish long tasks . For example, it may take too long to find the shortest way through all of the towns in the USA - so instead a computer will try to make a close guess . A computer will answer these simpler questions much faster.

    Design pattern (computer science)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search In software engineering , a design pattern is a general reusable solution to a commonly occurring problem in software design . A design pattern is not a finished design that can be transformed directly into code . It is a description or template for how to solve a problem that can be used in many different situations. Object-oriented design patterns typically show relationships and interactions between classes or objects , without specifying the final application classes or objects that are involved. Design patterns reside in the domain of modules and interconnections. At a higher level there are architectural patterns that are larger in scope, usually describing an overall pattern followed by an entire system. Not all software patterns are design patterns. For instance, algorithms solve computational problems rather than software design problems.

If you've decided to donate your old computer to a charity, local group or school, it's important to make sure your computer's hard drive is completely free of data In the "no good deed ever goes unpunished" department, you need to ensure that you don't donate more than you planned. The last thing you want is to pass on a PC when sensitive business information, or even personal information such as stored passwords, personal documents and credit card numbers that could be retrieved. When you donate a computer, you really don't know where it may end up or if it will go through the hands of a malicious person with the capability to restore previously recorded and deleted data. Sponsored Download: BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express: Download: BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express There are many ways to go about ensuring your data can never be retrieved. Obviously, you can choose to physically smash the drive, but there are alternatives that enable you to keep the system intact so you can donate a complete system.

Colors would not be possible without light because color is, in essence, light either reflected off of objects we see or viewed directly from the light source. When light is passed through a prism, the light beam changes direction, and the wavelengths are separated, causing the prism to produce the colors of the electromagnetic spectrum. Rainbows are light refracted through water particles in the air. Humans can only perceive a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum Infrared , microwave, radio, television and electrical power have lower frequencies than visible light, and ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays have higher frequencies.

In fact, many computers will even have additional USB ports located on the front of the tower, in additional to two standard USB ports at the back. In the late 1990s, a few computer manufacturers started including USB support in their new systems, but today USB has become a standard connection port for many devices such as keyboards, mice, joysticks and digital cameras to name but a few USB-enabled devices. USB is able to support and is supported by a large range of products. Adding to the appeal of USB is that it is supported at the operating system level, and compared to alternative ports such as

Department of Computer Science - UW Oshkosh
Each November UW Oshkosh is a contest site for the North Central North American Regionals of the Annual ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. The department congratulates three of our majors Alejandro Carrasquilla, Tim Fendt, and Matt Meyers who traveled to Pennsylvania along with their fire-fighting robot to participate in a nation-wide robotics competition. Watch a video or read an interview about the work Alejandro, Tim, and Matt did in this regard. Are you a high school student thinking about Computer Science as a major and a career? Are you employed full-time and considering a career change? If so, there are many good reasons for considering the Computer Science program at UW Oshkosh. The department has been awarded a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates grant. This will allow us to host and provide stipends to eight students for each of three summers from 2009 through 2011. They will work on a variety of research projects that explore the common theme of open source software development in online Computer Science learning environments. Read more about this opportunity and apply online.
