This vision was how computer science would fit into the unique spirit of Yale University, an institution oriented to an unusual degree around undergraduate education and close interdepartmental collaboration. The Department has always had close ties to mathematics and engineering, but has increasingly experienced collaborations with other disciplines important to Yale, including psychology, linguistics, economics, business, statistics, music, medicine, physics and more. It is through these collaborations that the importance of computer science in a broader sense is best appreciated.

Congratulations to Prof. Zhendong Su , who has been selected to be a 2010-2011 Chancellor’s Fellow and will receive a one-time award of $25,000 to be used in support of his research, teaching, and service activities. The Chancellor’s Fellows Program is supported in part by funds from the Davis Chancellor’s Club and the Annual Fund of the University of California, Davis. The Program was established in 2000 to honor the achievements of outstanding faculty members early in their careers. Ph.D. student Taeho Kwon and Professor Zhendong Su received an ACM Distinguished Paper Award at the International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis (ISSTA 2010), the flagship conference in software testing and analysis. Their paper, " Automatic Detection of Unsafe Component Loadings ," describes the first automated technique to detect unsafe component loadings, an important class of software errors and vulnerabilities. Their results on 28 widely used applications show that unsafe loadings are prevalent and can also result in remote code execution attacks.

About the Collection
This is a collection of bibliographies of scientific literature in computer science from various sources, covering most aspects of computer science. The bibliographies are updated weekly from their original locations such that you'll always find the most recent versions here. The collection currently contains more than 3 millions of references (mostly to journal articles, conference papers and technical reports), clustered in about 1500 bibliographies, and consists of more than 2.3 GBytes (530MB gzipped) of BibTeX entries. More than 600 000 references contain crossreferences to citing or cited publications. More than 1 million of references contain URLs to an online version of the paper. Abstracts are available for more than 800 000 entries. There are more than 2000 links to other sites carrying bibliographic information. Computing has enabled discovery in areas previously untapped such as mapping of the human gene via the Human Genome Project, unraveling the mysteries of DNA, and exploration of the farthest reaches of the universe with the Hubble telescope. None of these discoveries would be possible without developments in computer science. In another ten to fifteen years, it is expected that all major systems and infrastructure in the world will be controlled by software. Software engineers and computer science will play a critical role in this transformation.
Computer Science is a discipline concerned with the study of computing with purposes of programming, automating tasks, creating tools to enhance productivity, etc. Computer Science provides tools that are central in exploring and solving problems in engineering, biology, finance and many other disciplines. The Department of Computer Science offers two programs of study. At the undergraduate level, students can acquire a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or choose it as a minor. At the graduate level, they can obtain a Master of Science in Computer Science. BS in Computer Science Minor in Computer Science MS in Computer Science

Company with CS Technology Wins Contest Students in the Interactive Computing Everywhere Lab in the Computer Science Department invented a technology called “Wireless Pixels.” A local Utah County start-up, Pixelture, Inc., licensed this technology and recently won the grand prize in Utah’s Digital Media Concept to Company contest. “Wireless Pixels can change the way people meet and work together,” said Dan Olsen, CS Professor and director of the ICE lab, “With Wireless Pixels everyone in the room can participate and use as many screens as they can afford to install.” more
Welcome Back, Bill Barrett!
After three years of service, Barrett is returning to BYU from his calling as president of the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission. While Barrett is somewhat sad to be leaving the beautiful wooded areas of Wisconsin, his usual good humor shines through.
“It’s very hard to leave,” he said of being a mission president.  “There’s this completely other life with hundreds, even thousands of friends that have become very dear to you, but no one else knows anything about … It’s like leading a double life, but in a good way.”
