Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics comprising a family of mathematical models used for strategic analysis of interactions involving two or more interdependent agents or "players" each pursuing an independent self-interest while trying to take into account the effects of decisions made by the other players. First developed as a mathematical theory of economic and social organization based on a theory of games of strategy, as explained in the 1944 classic book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern , game theory was soon applied by the RAND Corporation for developing nuclear strategies. The theory has subsequently proven to be relevant in such diverse academic fields as biology , psychology, sociology , and philosophy . Many game theoretic models, especially the prisoner's dilemma in which rational self-interest hurts all the players, are used to illustrate ideas in political science, ethics , and philosophy. Most recently, computer scientists have applied models from game theory in the fields of

Game theory is a branch of mathematics that uses models to study interactions with formalised incentive structures ("games"). It has applications in a variety of fields, including economics evolutionary biology political science , and military strategy . Game theorists study the predicted and actual behaviour of individuals in games, as well as optimal strategies. Seemingly different types of interactions can exhibit similar incentive structures, thus all exemplifying one particular game. John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern first formalised the subject in 1944 in their book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior .Game theory has important applications in fields like operations research economics collective action political science ... psychology , and biology . It has close links with economics in that it seeks to find rational strategies in situations where the outcome depends not only on one's own strategy and "market conditions", but upon the strategies chosen by other players with possibly different or overlapping goals. Applications in military strategy drove some of the early development of game theory.

Game Theory
Monograph The social experiments Artur Zmijewski documents in his provocative videos reveal disquieting aspects of human nature Artur Zmijewski, Repetition The starting point for Zmijewski’s works is most often a set of basic rules, which provide a group of performers with a cue to act upon, but which never prefigure the outcome of those actions. In An Eye for an Eye (1998), for instance, Zmijewski matches two men of different ages who each have had a leg amputated, to people with unimpaired bodies. Together, the pairs improvise to find positions that allow one performer to lend the missing limb to the other, so that they can stand, walk or climb stairs as if they shared one body. These impromptu acts of solidarity are documented in a video and a series of 20 photographs. For The Game of Tag (1999), Zmijewski asked a diverse group of adults to enter a former concentration camp gas chamber naked and play tag, while he filmed the ensuing performance. After the players overcome their initial feelings of shame, the game becomes more boisterous and they scramble about joyously in the death chamber. For KRWP (2000), Zmijewski persuaded soldiers from the Polish Army’s Honour Guard to perform their drill ceremony on the parade grounds in full uniform – and then repeat it in the nude, in a ballet studio. Under the command of their leader, the naked men march in tight formation, present their guns and chant songs about war and women. Their well-rehearsed choreography remains impeccable. Yet, apart from the occasional awkward giggle, there is an extra bit of proud swagger through which the men overcome their embarrassment and mock the drill.

After watching Home Invasion, I couldn't get this idea out of my head; it may or may not turn into a multi-part story. This is my first ever fanfiction attempt, so feedback is appreciated.
You have a lot of rules for someone who doesn't play by them. The first rule is to never let anyone know how much you care about the game. He establishes this one early on, maybe in elementary school. Kids are cruel: you trip on the playground or miss one question in class and they snicker and taunt and eat you alive if they figure out that you care. Neal knows he's smart – smarter than most people, even – but he also knows that he's not infallible. He knows he's going to lose sometimes, whether it's because he screws up or because unforeseeable circumstances align to screw him over or because – worst of all – someone on the other team actually outsmarts him, winning fair and square. Neal hates losing. It's a sickening sensation, that painful needle of shame and anger and childish disbelief burrowing through the fissures of his nonchalant facade to the pressure point at his core, his pride, until he feels like he's going to explode. But he doesn't. He swallows the tantrum and smiles his most charming smile – a disarming mixture of innocent amusement, graceful acknowledgment of his own loss, and admiration for the person who beat him.

Game theory
Game theory , a branch of mathematics operations research and economics , is the analysis of interactions with formalized incentive structures ("games"). The predicted and actual behavior of individuals in these games are studied, as well as optimal strategies. Seemingly different types of interactions can be characterized as having similar incentive structures, thus all being examples of one particular game. Game theory is closely related to economics in that it seeks to find rational strategies in situations where the outcome depends not only on one's own strategy and "market conditions", but upon the strategies chosen by other players with possibly different or overlapping goals. It also finds wider application in fields such as political science and military strategy The results can be applied to simple games of entertainment or to more significant aspects of life and society. An example of the application of game theory to real life is the prisoner's dilemma as popularized by mathematician Albert W. Tucker; it has many implications for the nature of human cooperation.

Game Theory
  • Taxonomy of games
    • Static game vs. dynamic game
      • static game: it is a single-act (one-stage) game; the players act only once (open-loop control). dynamic game: it is a multi-stage game; at least one player is allowed to use a strategy based on previous actions (closed-loop control).
Zero-sum game vs. nonzero-sum game Two players vs. N players Pure strategy vs. mixed strategy
      • pure strategy: deterministic; it consists of only one action. It is a special case of the mixed strategy where one action is taken with probability 1. mixed strategy: probabilistic; a mixed strategy is actually a probability mass function. Mixed strategies consist of pure strategies and proper mixed strategies (the underlying probability distribution of which is not one point).
      Finite game vs. infinite game
      • A finite (infinite) game has a finite (infinite) set of actions.
Games with complete information vs. game with incomplete information
      • When some players do not know the payoffs of the others, a game is said to have incomplete information; otherwise, the game is said to have complete information.
