Hiring or training on important industrial skills? The Industrial Skills test package covers a wide range of industrial knowledge and skills, making this the perfect product for evaluating trainees and job applicants.
The Industrial Skills test package provides testing on general skills and knowledge, as well as specialized tests covering particular skills such as construction, metalworking and plumbing. Following are the test descriptions.
Assembly and Matching
This test for Assembly and Matching covers such skill sets as: knowing the use of specific tools, assembling products, matching geometrical figures, as well as determining the knowledge of the tools or machinery to be used in a given job. This assessment also covers general areas of knowledge such as identifying different parts of industrial machinery and naming tools. It is appropriate to administer this test to anyone looking for a position in the industrial field.
AutoCAD 11
AutoCAD 11 is one of the first major CAD programs for personal computers and rapidly became an industry standard. The package is generally used by engineers and architects. This test covers such application knowledge as properties, layer colors and names, circle creation, and dimensions, among others. It is appropriate to administer this test to an AutoCAD 11 user.

    Industrial Mathematics
Industry and business provide many areas for the application of advanced mathematics, and many possiblities for mathematicians to make significant contributions. According to " The SIAM Report on Mathematics in Industry ", Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, industry is looking for mathematicians for their
    • skills in abstraction, analysis of structure, and logical thinking expertise in formulating and solving problems
Some of the skill needed for a mathematician to contribute in industry include
    • modeling and problem solving interest in and knowledge of applications communication skills working with others
Our program at New Mexico Tech is designed to prepare students in these areas. The degree program includes courses in mathematical modeling, core industrial mathematics courses, and a concentration in some particular field. Part of the degree requirements is a one semester (normally summer) internship. The student will spend the term working in an industrial setting, using their knowledge of modeling and mathematical analysis. The internship is an important part of an industrial math degree. The Industrial Math Group , consisting of faculty in the applied mathematics and Operations Research, oversees the program.

The High School Industrial Math Project Database
The WPI Industrial Mathematics Project for High School Students has developed over 20 industrial mathematics projects for high school students drawn from a variety of real-world situations. Projects are available for every level of high school mathematics, from Algebra to Calculus and Statistics. The length and scope of the projects are very flexible - a project often contains enough material for a major, semester-long endeavor, but its component parts can also be used as breif enrichment activities. Our project database contains downloadable versions of each of the projects, ready to be assigned to students.
What are industial math projects all about?
Industrial mathematics problems are designed to connect traditional classroom subjects with real-world applications, showing students how they might use mathematics after they graduate. The projects put the focus on mathematics as a way of thinking about problems and emphasizes problem formulation in addition to problem solving. The problems encourage clear, logical thinking, connect seemingly unrelated mathematics, and very often require decisions based on imperfect information. The current industrial projects are available by clicking on the projects menu item above. The projects deal with realistic problems from industries as divers as finance, education, insurance, manufacturing, and law enforcement, among others. Some of the specific projects include studies of standardized test data; SuperSoaker water guns; the iBot, a high-tech wheelchair; and the Amtrak train system.
