Journal of Integral Equations
and Applications
Journal of Integral Equations and Applications is an international journal devoted to research in the general area of integral equations and their applications. The Journal of Integral Equations and Applications, founded in 1989, endeavors to publish significant research papers and substantial expository/survey papers in theory, numerical analysis, and applications of various areas of integral equations, and to influence and shape developments in this field. The Editors aim at maintaining a balanced coverage between theory and applications, between existence theory and constructive approximation, and between topological/operator-theoretic methods and classical methods in all types of integral equations. The journal is expected to be an excellent source of current information in this area for mathematicians, numerical analysts, engineers, physicists, biologists and other users of integral equations in the applied mathematical sciences.

As we have stressed at the beginning of the previous section, the surplus of density may be regarded as being the convolution of a short range function and itself. We formalize this by introducing the direct correlation function c r ) according to
The total correlation at is the sum of a direct correlation plus an indirect contribution coming from all surrounding points: the surplus induced at causes an effect at (see Fig. ( )). Notice that Eq. ( ) is nothing more but a definition of the total correlation function.

edit Equation of the first kind
Integral equations, most generally, are common and take many specific forms (Fourier, Laplace, Hankel, etc.). They each differ in their kernels (defined below). What is distinctive about Fredholm integral equations is that they are integral equations in which the integration limits are constants (they do not include the variable). This is contrast to Volterra integral equations A homogeneous Fredholm equation of the first kind is written as: and the problem is, given the continuous kernel function K(t,s) , and the function g(t) , to find the function f(s) If the kernel is a function only of the difference of its arguments, namely K t s K t s , and the limits of integration are , then the right hand side of the equation can be rewritten as a convolution of the functions K and f and therefore the solution will be given by where and are the direct and inverse Fourier transforms respectively.
