Wood lattice screen or lattice "fence." David Beaulieu zSB(3,3) Lattice screens hide many an imperfection in yards. You may have an unsightly HVAC unit lying on the ground next to your home, where you'd rather have plants. Or perhaps you'd like to fence in a garbage storage area or the underpinnings of a deck, so that they're not so visible. Wood lattice screens work well for these and other screening needs. Vines can later be trained up the wood lattice fencing to provide further screening. Difficulty: Average Time Required: 2 days
    Here's How:
  • If the wood lattice screen is to be freestanding, install posts to support the lattice. In turn, the posts will be sunk into the ground and supported by concrete. In this project I'm referring to wooden posts and a wood lattice (not vinyl). If the lattice fencing is 4' x 8', you'll need to space the 2 postholes about 8' apart. Err on the side of spacing them a bit closer (you can always trim excess lattice). Dig the 2 postholes. In cold climates you must dig 3' down, so that you'll get below the frost line. This will prevent heaving during freeze-and-thaw cycles. Even in warmer climates, consider digging to this depth to provide tall posts (7' or more) with more stability.

Date: 8/30/96 at 10:3:13 From: by way of Eric Sasson Subject: Lattice Multiplication Can you please explain the lattice method of solving a multiplication problem? Thanks, Susan Date: 10/19/96 at 21:42:39 From: Doctor Mason Subject: Re: Lattice Multiplication Dear Susan, You've asked one of my favorite questions. In fact, your question is why I became a Math Doctor. The Lattice Form of Multiplication dates back to the 1200s or before in Europe. It gets its name from the fact that to do the multiplication you fill in a grid which resembles a lattice one might find ivy growing on. Let me see if I can explain it with an example. Let's multiply 469 x 37. First write the 469 across the top, and the 37 down the right side of a 3x2 rectangle. (It's 3x2 because the factors have three and two digits respectively.) Now fill in the lattice by multiplying the two digits found at the head of the column and to the right of the row. When the partial product is two digits, the first (10's) digit goes above the diagonal and the second (1's) digit goes on the lower right of the diagonal. If the partial product is only one digit, a zero is placed in the triangle above the diagonal in the square. At this point, we have the multiplication done. Now we add along the diagonals beginning in the lower right to get the final product. Any "carries" when adding are illustrated outside the rectangle.

We call this effort The Lattice Project. The lead researchers are Michael Cummings and Adam Bazinet A broad spectrum of life science research will benefit greatly from increased access to high performance computing resources. Several properties of modern life sciences research drive the need for high performance computing:
    • Trend toward quantitative analysis in experimental biology. The nature of much life sciences research involves inference and hypothesis testing that require computation. The rapidly increasing size and number of analysis inputs including databases, samples, and experiments. Increasing complexity of analytical models and concomitant increase in possible solution space. Maximum likelihood calculations, Monte Carlo and other stochastic simulation methods increasingly involve more parameters. While such models can increase our understanding of the underlying natural processes under investigation, in many cases they lead to an exponential increase in the number of possible solutions.

Introduction to Lattices Lattice theory is a subalgebra (a subset of algebra) in abstract algebra that describes how collections of objects depict algebraic structure. Lattices can also be described as combinatorial objects used as a tool to solve complex mathematical and computer science problems. It is thought by some to be a precursor to category theory. How to Install Lattice Installing lattice under a porch or deck on your house is a moderately easy, inexpensive way to greatly improve the appearance your house. All it takes is a few common tools, time and patience and some rudimentary math skills. My job took about ten hours (but I was working alone, so I had to constantly switch between measuring,... DIY: Lattice Work Lattice can be installed in a number of places to keep children or pets within the lines of your property, add privacy to your home, for aesthetic appeal and many other reasons. Lattice does not only pertain to fences but can be used as arbor and other things. You can even put plants around it for beautification.
