Organising committee:
Peter Constantin (Chicago)
Sergei Kuksin (Heriot Watt)
John Toland (Bath)
The aim of this 10-day course is to instruct young mathematicians in topics involving mathematical analysis of hydrodynamics. The conference takes the form of a series of courses (each course being made up of between 2 and 4 one-hour lectures), the courses being structured so that the more basic material is presented during the first week, leading to more advanced lectures in the second week. The courses are supplemented by single research-level talks on recent advances.
The following themes will be addressed:
  • Euler equations Quasi-geostrophic equations Statistical hydrodynamics Related models Mathematical aspects of physical turbulence Water waves
Supporting institutions and organizations
The meeting is supported by the European Commission, DG XII, Human Potential Programme, High Level Scientific Conferences HPCF-CT-2001-00103 and by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK. The Organisers hope to provide financial support for the majority of younger participants.

About the Author
Julia Neus was born in Lennestadt, Germany, in 1973. She studied mathematics, chemistry, and theology at the University of Siegen where she graduated in 1999 with a most remarkable thesis on the history and mathematical analysis of aromaticity, published now as HYLE Study No. 2. After graduation, she worked as a trainee in the chemical industry (LSG Elab Siegen, and Bayer AG Leverkusen). In 2000 she moved to Stuttgart to become a High School teacher. Upon qualifying as an Assessor in 2002, she acts as a teacher at the secondary school in Murrhardt, Southern Germany. (Contact: julia.neus@gmx.de About the book
Aromaticity is one of the most important concepts not only in organic chemistry. This book first outlines the historical development of the concept since the discovery of benzene in 1825 and then analyses its meaning in mathematical terms. The author distinguishes between many different aspects of the notion of aromaticity and discusses a large variety of numerical parameters (energetic, geometric, magnetic, spectroscopic and reactivity parameters). The central issue is whether all these parameters essentially refer to the same basic property of aromaticity, or whether there are several independent factors behind the received notion that allow to distinguish between different types of aromaticity.

Mathematical Analysis Placement Test
What is the purpose of the Mathematical Analysis Placement Test? The purpose of this exam is to place students into the appropriate course: Mathematics 1A or 1B. Passing Mathematics 1B (the second quarter of the precalculus sequence) with a grade of "C" or better will enable you to enroll in Mathematics 2A (the first quarter of calculus). Mathematics 1A is offered in the fall quarter; Mathematics 1B is offered during both summer sessions and in the fall and winter quarters. Who should take the test? If you plan to enroll in a precalculus mathematics course (Mathematics 1A or 1B) and have had only three years of math in high school, or the equivalent, or if your grade in a fourth-year high school math course (e.g., advanced algebra with trigonometry) was below a "C", the Mathematical Analysis Exam is recommended. Test results are valid for one academic year.
What should I study before the examination?

News MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF RANDOM PHENOMENA Proceedings of the International Conference Hammamet, Tunisia, 12 – 17 September 2005 edited by Ana Bela Cruzeiro Habib Ouerdiane (University of Tunis El Manar, Tunisia) Nobuaki Obata (Tohoku University, Japan) Table of Contents Preface This volume highlights recent developments of stochastic analysis with a wide spectrum of applications, including stochastic differential equations, stochastic geometry, and nonlinear partial differential equations. While modern stochastic analysis may appear to be an abstract mixture of classical analysis and probability theory, this book shows that, in fact, it can provide versatile tools useful in many areas of applied mathematics where the phenomena being described are random. The geometrical aspects of stochastic analysis, often regarded as the most promising for applications, are specially investigated by various contributors to the volume.
