Optical Fiber Technology
The optical fiber concept has been around for more than a century. From the early experiments by John Tyndall in the guided transmission light, through the development of light-emitting diodes and lasers , and the emergence of dense wavelength-division multiplexing , the applications for optical fiber have continued to grow. Today, optical fiber technologies permeate a variety of industries. For instance, delivering high-definition broadcast ( HDTV ) at resolutions of 1080p has become possible through the deployment of fiber-to-the-curb ( FTTc or FTTh ) networks. Satellites transporting L-Band signals over fiber do not need to be demodulated, and also suffer less attenuation

Enlighten your day with the optics odyssey ! Undoubtedly, nearly all who read this page have, at one time or another, pondered the question, "What is light?"
The history of man's investigations of the nature of light is fascinating.
The efforts of the pre-seventeenth century scientists were largely individual undertakings. As scientific endeavors progressed, there was an increasing desire to discuss one's observations with one's peers. Gradually, men began to meet informally to discuss scientific achievement and to carry out experiments.
Optics2001.com

Photographic optics
HOME ABOUT PHOTOS OPTICS ... SITEMAP Here is a collection of illustrated articles on the chief causes of image degradation in photography. Currently available pages can be accessed via hyperlinks. The reader should keep in mind that the articles are about principles of photographic optics and not about tests of specific lenses. Also, most of the phenomena have been captured on film. Since a film acts as no more than a light-sensitive medium, the examples equally apply to a digital recorder array. In the few cases where the nature of the recording medium is important, this will be emphasized.
Seidel aberrations
  • Spherical aberration occurs when the lens margins focus the light closer to -or further from- the sensor than the lens center. Coma is associated with off-axis image points being smeared out in the characteristic comet shape. Astigmatism implies that a lens can be sharper in one direction than another. The archetypal example is that of a wheel where the spokes and the rim are not rendered sharp simultaneously. Field curvature leads to a curved image surface. Although the image can be sharp on this surface, it is incompatible with a flat sensor.
