Let us also know the different applications of active control of vibrattion and sound. As simple as it sounds, it is quite not easy to understand active noise control and the process behind it. It involves certain scientific words and explanations which only physicians or acoustic engineers. Active noise control or anti noise or maybe we should also consider the prominent noise-cancelling feature of many audio products that we have today. You may not know it but your phone might have that feature in it enabling you to talk to somebody while the train is loud in the background. However in a book by Colin N. Hansen, active noise cancellation involves the electro-acoustic generation of a sound field to cancel unwanted existing sound field. He discusses active noise control combining the subject of electronics and mechanics. In a book by Colin N. Hansen, he will take you back to the early history of this phenomenon and will give you a few predictions on how far this technology will be improved. He will also be introducing where or on what current devices is active noise control being applied today.

The purpose of active noise control is to generate an anti-noise signal from a speaker to minimize the noise level of the original signal. Traditional noise control techniques use passive treatments to minimize the noise level. For example, the automobile industry minimizes the noise level in the car cabin by using mufflers to absorb the engine noise. These traditional noise control techniques can minimize noise that has a medium or high frequencies. However, these techniques cannot minimize noise that has a low frequency. With active noise control, you can produce an anti-noise signal with the same low frequency as the low-frequency noise signal. The phases of the anti-noise signal are opposite to those of the low-frequency noise signal. When the two signals reach the same point, they satisfy the superposition principle and negate each other. Note Active noise control performs optimally when controlling monotone noise in a spatially simple and small sound field. For example, you can use this technique to minimize the noise level of a low-frequency sound waveform traveling through a duct.

LOGIN: Active noise control United States Patent 4876722 An active noise control system for reducing the amount of noise propagated along a duct comprises a microphone mounted in the wall of the duct for detecting the noise, and an active antiphase noise source, such as a loudspeaker, which is mounted substantially in the center of the cross-section of the duct. A control circuit coupled between the microphone and the antiphase noise source includes an integrator having a specific transfer function, which improves the loop gain of the microphone/source loop at low frequencies, and secures stability by altering the phase.
