    Astrophysics
Astrophysics is the study of the physics of stars and stellar systems and interstellar materials. The laws of physics are applied to astronomical systems to help us understand how these systems came into being, how they work with the other systems and how they cease. The Laws of Newton give an accurate model for the dynamic system of stars. This is the known as the study of stellar dynamics.
Newton not only studied dynamics but also calculus in order to further understand the way the planets moved. He came up with a mathematical model that still holds today. His model is still fundamental to the study of star clusters, galaxies and the solar system.
Newtons equation still holds as a good start to model many of the astrophysical systems such as the solar systems, star clusters and galaxies. The reason that Newtons equation still holds today is due to gravity. Gravity is a long-range force in the universe that has an attraction force in everything in the universe. Gravity was in Newtons early equation and therefore makes the equation valid for a large amount of astrophysics studies.
In stellar dynamics, gravity plays a role as a long-range force. Electromagnetism is also a long-range force but is not considered important in the large scale because the positive and negative charges cancel each other out.

The study of cosmology is theoretical astrophysics at its largest scale; conversely, since the energies involved in cosmology, especially the Big Bang , are the largest known, the observations of the cosmos also serve as the laboratory for physics at its smallest scales as well. In practice, virtually all modern astronomical research involves a substantial amount of physics. Astrophysics
is the branch of astronomy that deals with the physical properties of stars , galaxies, and other astronomical objects. Among such characteristics are: temperature, luminosity, color, density and chemical composition of stars.
Cosmology is theoretical astrophysics at its largest scale, involving the structure of the whole universe. Astrophysical research is important for physics at atomic and subatomic scales. Most of modern astronomical research involves a substantial amount of physics and can be considered astrophysics. However, astronomy is considered to be separated into 3 traditional branches: astrometry and celestial mechanics are the classical fields of astronomy; astrophysics is the modern field. The current high status of astrophysics is reflected in the naming of institutions involved in astronomical research: the oldest ones are "astronomy" departments or institutes, the newest ones include "astrophysics" in their names, often excluding the word "astronomy". Astrometry and celestial mechanics are so related that they may be considered a single branch: for this reason, the Scientia websites are only two

The Astro2010 Committee has released the new Decadal report.
Please visit " Special Events " to learn more. People have gazed at the stars, given them names, and observed their changes for thousands of years. NASA joined the ancient pursuit of knowledge of our universe comparatively recently; nevertheless, in our first half-century of space science we contributed to several major advances in astronomy, including: The International Year of Astronomy has ended, but activities still continue around the world. To learn more, visit: http://www.astronomy2009.org/ Even so, we still have perplexing and important puzzles to solve. To answer these questions, NASA is planning a series of missions linked by powerful new technologies and complementary approaches with shared science goals. In the first few decades of this new century astronomers will greatly advance the study of classical cosmology: the description of the universe on the largest scales and how it works. We will also begin to write the final chapter of the story of galaxies, witnessing the actual birth of these vast collections of stars.
