21. Bioinformatics Tools In Haskell
A bioinformatics library implemented in Haskell, including various utilities based on it.
http://malde.org/~ketil/
Bioinformatics (and other) tools in Haskell
An assorted collection of tools for (mainly) sequence analysis that I've found useful or interesting. There's also a blog where I will document code, provide examples, and generally jot down stuff about bioinformatics and Haskell that's on my mind. The tools are mostly written in Haskell and available as darcs repositories. Oh, and there's a health warning image in SVG format. But I digress. You could also check the bin directory , where I'll try to have current, statically linked Linux binaries floating around. I'll also build debian packages when I get around to it.
Non-Bioinformatic tools in Haskell
Okay, these aren't bioinformatics-related, really.
SimpleArgs
A 'getArgs' that is somewhat more flexible and informative (in case of incorrect usage) than the one in System.Environment. Not a replacement for GetOpt, but useful for quick hacks. Check the README for some examples. darcs get http://malde.org/~ketil/simpleargs
interlude
Tired of anonymous error messages from 'read', 'head' or 'tail'? Interlude is an include file that defines replacements for partial functions as CPP macros, so that you'll at least get the line number where the function failed. darcs get http://malde.org/~ketil/interlude

24. Bioinformatics Courses And Lectures
Course materials, book recommendations and links related to bioinformatics.
http://www.bioinformaticscourses.com/
This course introduces students to the practical application of structure and sequence analysis, database searching and molecular modeling techniques to study protein sequence, structure and function. Amino acid properties and protein secondary structures will be reviewed as supporting information for understanding the importance of protein sequence. Internet resources, molecular visualization software, and computational algorithms will be introduced to the student for structure analysis. It is anticipated that the student will gain practical knowledge in using software techniques and internet resources to handle and compare sequence and structure information, search databases and interpret protein structure. This course is designed to introduce and explain the application of computational and analytical methods to address problems in biotechnology. Many popular software tools employed in biotechnology and bioinformatics research will be covered. The theoretical basis governing the use and importance of these tools will be explored. This is a 2 hour lecture given as part of the UCSD Extension Target Identification and Validation course organized by Leonard Miller, Ph.D.

Certificate Program in
Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics
(BINF-CERT)
Motivation
Sharing the same Bioinformatics Science Core curriculum, the Graduate Certificate is ideally suited for working professionals who cannot make a commitment to the BICB-MS or PSM program at this time, but can use the Certificate as a stepping stone. The Certificate can also complement other UD degree programs, allowing current graduate students to gain bioinformatics knowledge and skills. The Computational Sciences Concentration (CS2) allows students to gain knowledge in developing bioinformatics methods, tools and/or databases for modern biotechnology or medicine. The Life Sciences Concentration (LSC2) allows students to gain knowledge in applying bioinformatics methods, tools and databases as an integral approach to modern biotechnology or medicine.
Requirements ( Browse Courses
The Graduate Certificate in Bioinformatics requires 15 credits in the courses to achieve core competency in Bioinformatics.
